"It's big, it's bold, it'll handle Flash (eventually) and it's got a cool-sounding name. Set to land next month, Verizon is clearly hoping to give the iPhone a run for its money with Motorola's eye-catching, Android-powered Droid X.
Verizon Wireless officials — accompanied by the CEOs of Google, Motorola and Flash developer Adobe — unveiled the long-rumored Droid X at a press event in New York on Wednesday, a day before the iPhone 4 goes on sale.

Boasting a 4.3-inch display, the same size as the jumbo HTC Evo 4G screen, the X will debut July 15 for $199 with a new two-year contract (after a $100 mail-in rebate). Unlimited data plans will go for the typical $30 a month, with voice plans starting at $40 a month.

The specs behind the new Android phone have been well-leaked, but here they are again: version 2.1 of the Android OS (with the just-announced version 2.2 on tap), a speedy 1GHz OMAP processor under the hood, an 8-megapixel camera (with a dual-LED flash and auto-focus) in back, a revamped version of Motoblur (Motorola's social-networking-friendly interface and "in the cloud" backup service), and 720p video recording.

Other features include GPS and Bluetooth (naturally), HDMI video out, microSD memory expansion (complete with a 16GB memory card in the box), a user-removable battery, and last but not least, the ability to act as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five other Wi-Fi-enabled devices (so long as you're willing to cough up an extra $20 a month and agree to the 2GB monthly cap)."

Have fun with the wait. 3G network running behind a 1ghz processor runs quite fast. Unlike my POS blackberry, I don't get mad waiting for stuff to load.

How many are they going to come out with?

The only thing that sounds interesting, is the 8 MP camera.. Everything else is pretty average for the Droid.. I still dont care for them though IMHO

Actually, the steps up over the Incredible is the 720p video capture, and the HDMI output. The 8MP camera is also in the Incredible.

IMO a 4.3 inch screen is too big on a phone. Its good for watching video and browsing web, but it makes the phone too big.

Even if its thin, its still like holding a brick and too big in the pocket.

Which is my point.. Why come out with another phone if they already have 2-3 phones out there with the same features...

    Makes no sense to me.

droid is just the OS. a number of companies are selling a large number of phone.
kinda like the tacoma, similar trucks, many of the same feature, some different, some with long bed some with short.
one particular company tends to lag in their implementation of the latest technology in favor for a phone that is pretty,
the droid platform is pushing the envelope for phones.

A CDMA version of the iPhone is supposed to be coming to Verizon in early 2011. I don't understand why Verizon keeps knocking the iPhone for.

Verizon will not be offering any 4G phones until their network is ready to support it. What Sprint does not tell you, is that their 4G service only works in a few places. Verizon wants to be able to state that it is available across all of their major metropolitan areas. As to a release date, as I am not on the wireless side, I am not sure when they will officially be offering the service.

Their LTE network is rumored to launch in mid 2011. Of course, when everyone else launches all of their new mobile goodies.
