GPS on the Windshield - Legal or Not

I'd heard the WI frowned upon it but was surprised to see all the other states that it's illegal: http://content.usatoday.com/communit...1#.UL6CBGfl_qI

I've always preferred bottom left corner as low and out of the windshield as possible for gadgets . . . I can see why having one smack dab in the middle could be an issue

I didn't know it was illegal here. I know it was brought up once, but didn't know they passed it. I see a GPS in a car everywhere here. Plus my ultra gauge and iPod mount are on my windshield, but no GPS.

I clicked through the article to the list of states and their statutes... The PA law is written for signs, stickers, and decals... says nothing of electronics of any kind, and a ticket would never hold up in court.

It does because it includes a generic "obstructed view" clause. Since the GPS is not transparent, it would obstruct your view through a small portion of the windshield.

4524 C
(c) Other obstruction.--No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material hung from the inside rearview mirror or otherwise hung, placed or attached in such a position as to materially obstruct, obscure or impair the driver's vision through the front windshield or any manner as to constitute a safety hazard.

... Been driving around for years with a GPS on the windshield of all of our cars... I'll continue to take my chances.

I see it as one of the MANY laws on the books in this state that are unenforceable.

Washington is written such that it must be attached to the windshield - therefore my dash mount is legit! :D
