Well you're in luck considering Toyota trucks are manufactured right here! Can't turn a corner without seeing a truck.
Hopefully everything turns out well for you, I'd like to give you an early welcome to Texas.

Housing market not just in San Antonio but Texas itself is going well as it has been. I'd avoid the south and west side, I guess I can only say that considering I reside on the north side. Not all parts of town inside 410 are that bad, really that's all I can say.

West and Northwest sides are most popular. I would not buy a house near base, there are a couple newer housing communities near base but the kids go to really crappy schools so resale value down there is not so good. Potranco Road outside of loop 1604 is pretty popular place right now but like I said anything on the west side/northwest side near 1604 is decent. If you have kids, Northside Independent School District is one of the better ones that are close to Lackland.

Thank you both for the help! I have been drooling over the number of houses available on zillow. I've got my fingers crossed hoping for this retraining package to go through.

Well coming her will be good. There are a lot of great places to live. Just look at the traffic problems in some of the areas that are real popular. I'm station at Ft Sam and live in the NW side. Population is a mo trucker. Wont be open country like where you are coming from, but plenty of country or shore to enjoy. Also get ready for real heat. We like it that way down here....
