Towing a boat with a 1st Gen

Help!!

I am looking at a boat that is right up to the 5,000 # limit. I have the V-6 with a 5 speed manual. Anyone out there with experience towing that much with a 5 speed? How was it? Is that weight too much? And then there is getting up and down the ramps (I guess getting down is easy). I have a 4x4 with the rear locker. I plan on that covering me.

I used to have a 2002 Ranger 18 foot bass boat, I would assume 2800-3000 lbs with trailer and gear. It pulled it ok, needed to downshift on grades, granted Im also at mile high and power is down up here. I always put it in 4LO pulling up the ramp just mostly to save the clutch. This was back when I had my '98 ext. cab.

Being down at sea level I do not think you will have a problem, just remember what is behind you as it may have a hard time stopping itt unless it has trailer brakes.

 

I pulled a 3000 lb camper with a 93 Toyota 4 Cyl 5spd. Scary, Yes! but it did the job. the clutch slipped on take off ,on flat road it did OK.

 

i tow my 5000# boat with my 04 v6 but its an auto, it's plulled it out in 4 high but i usually use 4 low i use an 1,000 / 10,000lbs Equilizer weight distrubution hitch that helped but looking into some helper springs from Hellwig,probably going to get a bigger truck next year like a suburban or Armada but not getting rid toyota
