WD hitch needed?

I'll be towing a 8x16 enclosed trailer at about 4200lbs loaded. I'm looking at this for the set-up http://www.dyersonline.com/equal-i-zer-600-6-000-4-point-sway-control-hitch.html Is this needed or just nice to have?

 

You'll be fine without the WD hitch until you get a good crosswind. Then it will be worth every cent.

 

Agreed. Does your trailer have electric brakes too?

I'd be wary of that weight without trailer brakes, that's more than the curb weight of the truck itself.

Expect crosswinds with an enclosed trailer as well.

Look at it this way, buy the WD Hitch and you can use it on other trailers later. I have one and moving it from a Travel Trailer to another trailer is pretty simple if the tongue heights are close to the same. It's a 5 - 10 minute process once you understand how it all work together.

 

Yes it has electric brakes on both axles. I'd rather error on the side of caution for sure.

 

Then 4200 lbs with that setup should pull pretty good.

I bought one of those, but they don't include sway bars into them. You have to find a friction swaybar to work with those.

My preference if I were to do it all over again would get the Reese Dual Cam setup or an integrated trunnion style into the hitch itself like the Equal-i-zer.

However, if cost is a factor, the $200 dollar Reese Pro series 600 / 6000 round bars work well with an add on friction sway bar.
