I am not a Tacoma owner (although I wish I was). However I am making a LED tailgate bar for my uncle for Christmas, therefore I am trying to be sneaky about it.

It appears his 2011 Tacoma does not have the factory wiring harness for towing. It simply has the connectors that go to each bulb in the taillights for the most part. I was wondering if something like THIS would work out for what I need it to do. I know it's hard to say without taking a look at it, but I figured I would give it a shot. I want to avoid splicing wires because he is kinda weird about that sort of thing.

If anybody REALLY wanted to be a help, they would send me a picture of the underside of the back end of their Tacoma (preferably without the towing harness).

    Thanks

correct. I thought I read on this item that this particular item shown might not be the one that is sent. I may have interpreted it wrong though.

Just looked now, and it appears that something like THIS may be what I am looking for. Thoughts?

just fyi go to a toyota dealership for the 4 pin plug in if thats what you end up buying. i bought my entire kit that came with everything for 35 bucks. the kit was superior to my old one. the box is tucked up behind the tail light where my other was not. the new one looks way more weather proof. came with all the wire look and zip ties.

That was my fall back plan, but I figured I would look online first, but the cheapest one I have come across is about $40.

I just talked to the parts counter at my local Toyota dealership....they want $95 for a wiring harness. They said their wiring harness connects up near the cab rather than in the taillight pockets. Yikes...

I just got done installing the Toyota OEM kit on my 2011 DC I4 truck last night. The kit I got is a four pin because I don't think I'll ever needa 7 pin because my towing capacity is 3500 on the 4 cylinder. The wiring is pretty straight forward and the reason why I went with OEM Toyota harness is because it has it's own 15amp circuit vs drawing power from the tail light circuit. Installation took me 4 hours last night because it was dark and cold out. The toughest part of the installation was running the 15ft powerline from the battery to the rear (damn fuel tank!). The rest was pretty straight forward. Looks very OEM when I pop the hood.
