Anyone carrying a cab over import camper? Performance, suspension, load?

I am looking at buying a 6'10" import cab over camper (not a pop up). It weighs approx 1000lbs. I have a double cab SR5 4x4 4.0L V6. I see in my manual my vehicle load capacity with people, cargo, and everything is 1100 lbs. so no doubt I would be over that limit when all loaded up. I am going to get airbags if I go ahead with this, just looking for advice or experiences with hauling one of these on the box. I see pictures all over the Internet of tacoma's with these on. Just was surprised to find out that it overloads my truck.

A hard sided camper is rare for a Tacoma. I have a 95 Northstar pop-up that weighs about 1000 lbs fully loaded. I bought the Goodyear airbags because the camper made the back sag too much. The V6 Tacoma hauls the camper very well and I still get 16-17 mpg if I keep it at 65 mph or under. That being said, I'm planning to upgrade to a tent or hard sided trailer. My camper doesn't have a bathroom and it gets crowded if you have more than 3 adults in there. The small campers are good for off-roading, but I never do that.

 

The Tacoma does not handle too well when overloaded. I would think that's true for all vehicles, though.
I am speaking from experience, and an expensive one at that. I would recommend against it, as you will be overloaded more than you think.
The Tacoma could probably do it, but I would not call it "safely", and it sure would not be fun driving it like that.

The other problem with these things is that you can't ever really set up camp and go anywhere, as you always need to take everything with you.

Wow. Must have done something drastic to the rear. Air bags filled up very good, I guess. Not much sagging. More like the opposite, LOL.

I saw that Livin Lite, but at 1050lbs it maxes out the truck. You can beef up the suspension but I've heard of bed mounts bending under the weight of heavy campers. That couple who built the super camper talk about that. I was looking for something small, around 500lbs, and found these. Unfortunately they're not in production.
