So Ive been tellin my old man about how much i like my truck...so he went out and bought a new 09 acc. cab tacoma...its the low one with the 4 cyl. engine... he wants to tow a 10' trailer with 2 quads on it...so my question is this too much weight for that truck?

I tow 2 sleds & 10' aluminum clamshell trailer, total weight is short of 2k. There is a great stickey with tow info Maverick has done here to help. Go for it, add a stiff hitch & harness if it doesn't have the tow pkg.

My 09 2wd 4 banger pulls my Carolina Skiff with no problems. The Auto LSD even lets me put it in the water using a sand ramp on the side of a canal. Actually it lets me get it out of the water.

This is not likely to go well for you. The 4 cyl is rated to tow 3500lbs. A 5000 lb. trailer is 1500 lbs over the limit. Your ability to stop that mass on the 4 cyl brakes will be greatly diminished even if you install a brake controller, and your ability to accelerate that mass out of trouble when you need to will also be hampered. To say nothing of the stress and strain that you'll put on your trucks drivetrain that it is not rated to handle.

Save your truck and possible the lives of some other motorists by staying within your vehicle's tow ratings. Just cause you have a truck and a trailer hitch does not mean that you can just pull anything you want. Be safe.

Im awaiting my 09 4cylinder 4x4 accesscab to arrive any day now and I will be towing a small trailer and full size ATV, and later this spring a tent trailer hopefully. But I agree with everyone else, do not exceed that tow rating of your vehicle. These 4cyl Tacomas are rated for 3500lbs max! most full size qauds wiegh about 600lbs empty, so X 2=1200lbs and then make sure your flatdeck utility trailer doesnt weaigh more than 2300lbs, wich is likely that is doesnt, 1000lbs is probably the most. so that should be fine.
