How to tell if you have factory tow package?

I'm looking for a used Tacoma and was wondering if there was a way to tell whether or not the truck came with the factory tow package (oil/trans cooler, alternator, etc) vs someone who had a hitch installed separately.

 

VIN lookup is the only definitive answer.

 

Pretty sure there's an extra, smaller radiator mounted in front of the regular one. Bottom, right hand corner, if facing the front of the truck.

Looking at the hitch itself will help. If it says Hidden Hitch, Reece, or Valley, it's aftermarket.

 

If it's a 1st gen your looking at look for, look to see what color the neck is on the the fan.
oem colors are orange and green. green would be part of the tow package, it's a hd clutch plate.
Or look behind the seat on the drivers side (cab wall) to see if you can see the black control box.

 

Looking for a 2nd gen and it will be an auto.

 

Look at the size of the battery. Tow Package comes with HD battery.

 

tow package will have the 7 pin wiring harnes an the trans cooler mounted in front of the radiator. It's black and kinda small.

is it the engine oil cooler or the trans cooler that is mounted in front of the rad?

how do you do a vin search?

 

the batteries are the same size. the tow package battery has more reserve and cold cranking amps though.
