The trailer I'm looking at has an unloaded tongue weight of 390 lbs. I'm figuring about 150 lbs will be added in propane and a battery. Does the crap I throw in the back of the truck count as well or is it just count or is it just the weight on the ball? I'm pretty sure the answer is no it doesn't count but wanted to be sure. As a side note, don't think it matters but i've got a WD hitch that I use on my current trailer and firestone air bags but am contemplating wheeler progressive aal's.

weight in the bed does not count as tongue weight. However when figuring out gross weight it does.

The gear in the bed does not count towards the tongue weight. Tongue weight is strictly the trailer tongue weight.
However, the gear in the bed does count towards GCW (gross combined weight), and more importantly, your payload (or GVW - gross vehicle weight). Payload is likely going to be the limiting factor, or in other words, the first of the limits you'll reach or go over.

    Yup.

V6 Tacoma with the towing package has a GCVWR of over 11,000lbs, but the GVWR is 5350, curb weight is 4045.

That's only 1500lbs of passengers and cargo INCLUDING the tongue weight.

Four average adults 500lbs tongue weight = Pretty much maxed.

If your city has a recycling center or a landfill, you might be able to roll over the scale and check your rolling weight with just you to see how close you are.
