Trying to figure a way to haul my massive ATV and tent trailer at the same time. I made a homemade tailgate extender http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/293903-my-homemade-tailgate-extender.html
And now I found this at the local auto shop that will extend the hit out with this adapter, and Im thinking I can cut the tubing on my homemade rid and make it the same height as the adapter and have it rest on this.
Anyone see and issues I will have?
Hitch extender says its good for 4000lbs, so Im assuming they are taking the 5000lbs regular and subtracting 20% because its making more leverage. Thats still fine as my truck is a 2.7 4 cylinder and with the bike and camper it will be still less then 2500lbs I will tow. But with me on the bike its reaching 1000lbs, and driving it up the ramps may be too much? Thoughts?

I think the truck will squat with your wheeler in the rear and the added trailer tongue weight may make you nose high. I've seen worse.......

Well Im installing Ride Rite air bags so that shouldnt be an issue. I was thinking more about the weight of the bike on the hitch when Im driving it on the truck

I don't understand the need for the hitch extender once the bike is loaded. It seems it'd help keep the weight off the tailgate for loading/unloading but most of the weight is forward once it's loaded (the rear tires seem to be just about on the crease between the bed and tail gate). That platform you built would be plenty to help disperse the weight, that way you can use your normal receiver for towing, no extensions. Just use your hitch extender for loading, at least that's my $0.02.

Another idea, lose the tailgate and build your platform just as long as it needs to be. Let the little bit that overhangs the bed get supported by the bumper. Just put a block between the bumper and the platform. That would make it shorter also so less chance of hitting the trailer in a sharp turn depending on how long the tongue is. My old man does that with his motorcycle and it works well.

its just too hard to get the piece I make off once the bike is loaded. Too much weight on the hitch thing to pull it out. Thats why I want to be able to just leave it in. I also dont want to have to haul the big T piece around in the back if Im not using it. But ya lots of ideas, Im glad people are giving them

I think the weight should be fine. At our local dealership, they have a Tundra set-up on a rotisserie chicken like mechanism that spins the truck 360 degrees so you can view underneath it. All this is done by a 2" sq tube bolted to the front frame and a 2" sq tube that runs inside the rear reciever. i should get a picture of it the next time I pick oil filters as its pretty impressive to see.
