I've starting towing my new rv more often (like weekly 100 miles). 24ft 3700 lbs dry weight. My truck is the 2012 double cab tacoma 4x4 v6with tow package. Some say get a bigger truck, some say you will be fine.

Can anyone say that you have actually damaged something on your truck, rear end, transmission etc by towing this kind of load often?

I'm towing 4500lbs.(trailer and gear)23ft travel trailer with an 06 prerunner double cab long bed w/ tow package and 125,000 miles. Not one problem! I did add a larger transmission cooler.

Not many must really tow by the lack of response.

Plenty of us tow...you asked for responses from people that have damaged something. I tow a 4500-5000# TT about 150 miles every other week and have not damaged anything but that's not what you were looking for.

I was looking for potential shortcomings to shore them up or make a rational decision about getting a bigger truck. Just looking for a similar load being applied to the truck and the results. Nothing more nothing less.

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.
If you want to improve the handling while towing look at airbags. It helped mine a lot, I think Toyota should actually just make it an option.

My biggest gripe with regards to load handling was the pathetic excuse for leaf springs that came on the Tacoma from the factory. Once that was resolved, I had no issues towing or hauling.

Was the trans temp light coming on or did you just add the extra cooler for safety?

I'm assuming by 'extra trans cooler' you mean in addition to the factory one that came with the tow package.

Nope, I added it as a extra safety. The hottest it ever got was 230 with out it on a hard pull and yes its in addition to the factory one.
If I remember right reading in here that the trans light doesn't come on till around 300. There was a post on it awhile back where one of the members got ahold of Toyota to find out.

I tow 6k and my truck is lifted with 285/70x17's aka 33's. I will be regearing to 4:11s which will put it pretty much back to stock final gearing. It lags on hills, but for a V6, it tows really well. I have towed the same trailer with a stock V8 chevy and it felt exactly the same.
