is this too much boat to tow and retrieve

I have a 2014 2.7l tacoma regular cab 5spd 4x4 and i wanna know if my taco can retrieve my boat from the lake.
My boat is a 1973 Starcraft 16' long 4'6" wide and all i have ever used to launch and retrieve my boat was a 1997 chevy 1500 that got totalled out by a deer therefore i purchased the taco. Most of the ramps i use are either concrete, or expanded steel grates, most are decent grades into the water a few are steep and a few have sand covering the concrete ramp.
The boat has a 1968 55 horsepower Evinrude Triumph outboard on the back.
I am unsure of the weight of the boat I got it as a bonus from a remodel.
Usually there are 2 adults one over 300lbs, one at 165lbs, one kid approx. 100lbs, 5lbs of bait, 18 pack of beer, cooler, 8pack wine coolers, 4 cans of soda, 5lb bag of ice, 6 rods and reels, and about 10lbs of tackle in the boat on a normal fishing trip. Not counting the 4 to 15 3lb+ northern pike, 15 walleye, 25 perch, and possibly a few catfish.

 

What's the weight?
It doesn't look like it weighs much so you should be fine.

I tow a 1976 Crestliner with an 85 Johnson. The boat is fiberglass. You will not have
any problem to pull yours.

 

You should be alright, that boat doesnt seem to way much like mentioned above..

Granted this is with a 4.0 V6 double cab but still you shouldnt have any issues... you can take it to a local scale and get it weighed too

 

I think it will do fine with the boat. However, the fish may put you over the limit.

 

Your truck won't have any problems towing that boat at all. I towed a 21' Chris Craft cabin cruiser with my 4 banger 1st gen and had no issues at all. I also had a boat similar to yours and it was cake towing it with the 4 cylinder.

It would help a lot though if you would put some tires on the trailer.

 

No problems at all. You could tow that boat with a decent mid-size car. Be sure to go through those trailer bearings first though...

 

piece of cake. Looking at that trailer and the wheels on it - I'll be amazed if thats more than a 2000lb axle.

But eyeballing it - I bet the whole thing is safely well and considerably under a thousand pounds; which is well within your capacity even without trailer brakes.

As mentioned above - It's been sitting and exposed. Repack the hubs.

 

i had her out last year before winter hit and the snow and ice we had this winter popped that tire into the inside of the rim lol i just repacked them last year they should be good to go

 

Unfortunately its not a fiberglass hull its aluminum

 

I really wouldn't worry about towing it then. Aluminum doesn't weigh anything.

 

Ya We usually dont keep any northern pike under 4lbs and 3ppl with a 5 fish per person limit.
The walleyes are usually around 3 to 6 lbs at 5 per person, the perch are usually under 2lbs at 25 per person, and the catfish theres no limiit and usually over 4lbs keeper. So ya it could get crowded in that boat with our usual 15 pike, 12 walleye, 75 perch, and 8 to 10 catfish in about 4 hours on a good day.

 

If it's aluminum you can probably pick up the boat haha. We can on my buddies. You'll be fine towing it

 

With 4lo you can retrieve just about anything.

 

It will do it just fine if you take your time. I had a 85 toyota 2WD with a 22R and a 5 spd. I towed my dads 16' aluminum bass tracker with a 40hp, a small cabover and 3 grown men with it. It did'nt do it fast but it did do it.

My current 93 toyota 2wd pickup has a 22RE and a automatic tranny. I just went to east texas and back pulling a 16' Lowes big jon boat over 100 miles each way and it towed great. The truck and boat was full of camping stuff, ice chests, wood all packed too much but it got there. Even with add a leafs on the back it was low riding. I did take it out of overdrive and did not exceed 60mph unfortunately it was a 75mph zone. Yours will do fine just take your time and give yourself plenty of room to stop.

 

Good to know Mr sir that's pretty much what I plan to do is just take it easy see how she does I may end up having to get that add a leaf. If you don't mind me asking what did that I had to leave end up costing you

 

Mine is 2wd and it raised it 1.5" to give it a raked look. Got it from Fat Bobs Garage for about 50-$75 if I remember correctly. I followed the tutorial on AAL here. It gives it just a little extra capacity and harder to bottom out except when its overloaded like on our recent trip. Its surprising how much crap you can carry in a boat and truck.
