Can I tow an r-pod 171?

New forum member here.

I have a 2012 double cab 4 cylinder Tacoma and am considering an r-pod 171. RV dealers tell me it will be fine. Of course they do. I know the rating is 3500 lbs for the truck, but is it realistic to tow something that close to the limit: probably around 3000 lbs?

I don't want to do something stupid here. Please set me straight.

should be fine. way under the towing capacity. if you going to pull it a lot then get trailer brakes to help slow you down.

 

The trailer is fine with your truck, I would add a transmission cooler to help keep the trans temperture down. A brake controller is a must and don't tow with the fresh water tank full if can get water at your camp site thats just extra wieght

 

^^^^what he said. Just be smart. Don't carry unneeded water get a tranny cooler and see if there is a trailer brake option. Also, if the truck sits ass heavy consider airbags because it can cause controllability issues.

 

Don't forget the weight of people in the cab along with food, luggage and toys you will be taking with you.

edit: R pod 171 comes with trailer brakes and weighs 2205 dry. You should be ok. I'll bet you're going to know it's back there on inclines though with the 4 banger. Also guessing you have the factory tow package with the tranny cooler?
