Without overloading? I've got a 2nd Gen. DC 4x4 shortbed with tow package. It's also got a 3" lift front and 1.5" rear OME set up.

I'd like to put the ATV (350lbs) in the bed and two dirt bikes (450lbs approx total weight including rack) on a hitch rack. Can this be done? Plus I'd need to clear the tailgate since it will be down to fit the ATV.

I don't want to have to purchase or use a trailer if possible.

    No....

Even two bike alone on hitch carrier would be too much......but ok if in the bed.

As far as the hitch carrier with motorcycles, you cant think of it in terms of pounds load total. The weight is carried way out on an extension of the hitch, which puts the load way way out past the rear axle. Its a canilevered load.....think of it like putting a long cheater bar on a wrench to provide added torque.

I carry one dirt bike with hitch carrier on my tacoma......total of 280 pounds......and I need air bags to keep truck level.

Cant open tailgate with hitch carrier on......not even close.

Get a small 500$ trailer at HOme Depot or Tractor suppply or where ever. Even the 200$ ones at freight harbor seem to keep some folks happy for a while.

No chance at all. Your going to need a trailer for the atv or the two bikes.

Yeah, I know about the lever arm and extended weights. I just needed to confirm my fears...that I need to get a trailer. Ouch, more expense. Oh well. It's good to know upfront instead of trying out only to find an expensive error or accident later.

    Thanks fellas.

I've been looking into trailers. The HF one looks okay but the small wheels scare me, and the fact that China-made stuff doesn't have the best reputation lately. Ha, but even the Home Depot ones are China-made.

I would be surprised if the Home Depot trailers are made in China.......cheaper to mass fabricate over here.

The HF trailer is a bolt together that can be shipped in small box from china, and then YOU bolt it together.

The Home Depot trailer is welded and would be impossibly expensive to ship in bulk from china at that price.
