Am I on target? Buying trailer-Xcountry move

Other little things...

back of trailer has lights (stop, turn signals, running lights) but....
I needed something else without breaking bank and GOOGLE helped me with reflective tape.

Then there are my less than stellar eyes and the off/on light switches in trailer....scotch tape time

 

Ok...made it X-country!

Gas as low as $2.13 a gallon

The trailer tracked like a dream...

I apologize for not posting update earlier. (got into remodeling mom's house....)

Towed x-country fine. Mileage was in the high 8mpg's lmao. (I wasn't exactly crawling)
Driving x-country with just your trusty dog- PRICELESS!!!!!!

Got to florida safely which was the goal. Then headed to CONN with 1/3 load.

I had an apparent short going in New Mexico with brake controller started with contacting Royal Cargo Customer service for possible ideas. I bought this trailer used so I am second owner. They bent over backwards helping me AND called me back 30 minutes later to just check in on me!! This guy was headed home when I first called. Who does that today?? (found ground on controller loosened up under side panel)

I do not need that big of a trailer anymore. (7x14 v-nose 6'6" 2,350 lbs)
Buying a simple Wells Cargo Fastrac 6x12 single axle with brakes. Fits my needs perfectly from here out.
I am opting for brakes on new trailer because I like to be safe. For $300 more why not?? Gain a few tow capacity lbs too. (3,500 lb limit instead of 2,990)

My take on towing 5,000+lbs with a Tacoma is.....(this is a personal opinion)

Once in a while doing this no problem at all.
Southern route is relatively flat so power was not an issue. (cross country)
Frequently/daily doing this kind of longer distance towing I believe the Tacoma is under-gunned, for me.
Reading and scouring this section of website is important!!! Cannot stress this enough. Huge help
