Travel Trailer Towing

Hi guys,

I am looking for another trailer trailer to tow with my Tacoma. I wanted to know for the people that own campers here to see what kind of camper and weight their travel trailer is. Since I have a 2nd gen 4.0L Tacoma, I know it's 6500lbs towing capacity and I was looking at campers around the 5500lbs dry weight limit so that leaves me room for the other accessories you had in the camper, propane, luggage, etc.

Just curious to see what is the dry weight of your trailer and how is it to tow with your vehicle? Obviously I want something that I will be comfortably to travel with the family.

Also, let me know the length of your trailer please.

Thanks.

I'm towing an 06 22ft Hi-Lo travel trailer (hitch to spare tire is 23'6") with my 4.0 v6
Dry wieght is 3900lbs (fully loaded I'm closer to 4500lbs)
Pictures of my rig are in my gallery and you'll notice I added powervision towing mirrors from a 98 chevy.
The great thing about this design is that it's low profile for better towing
They produced this trailer from 1957 to 2010 and they are some high quality used ones out there.
The most important is towing performance, I did install a larger trans cooler (9 1/2x11) on my truck. I took my rig through the colorardo rockies with 11,500 ft passes without any problems and retained good speed.
I got 13.5 mpg on my 3200 mile trip.
Good luck on finding a trailer that fits your needs

I've towed this outfit for a few years. My 2005 Tacoma is rated for 3500#. This trailer weighs 2675 loaded. I stay in Florida and wouldn't do a mountain or cross country trip. A good hitch, sway bar, and brake control are a must. Trailer is a 13'.

My opinion is you either need to look at a smaller trailer or bigger tow rig. Towing at max capacity is not ideal. Not to mention, you'll probably run out of payload before reaching your max 6500lb limit. At the ideal 12% tongue weight (at max capacity this would be 780lbs), you'll likely have around 300lbs left for family, gear, dogs, water, food, etc.

None of my business but what town are you in? I swear when I was down visiting my Dad I passed this truck and camper in a driveway. I'd swear it was you, and I live 1100 miles away!

I tow a 19' trailer that loaded is about 4500 lbs.with gear in the truck I think that is the practical limit.it can tow more but u start having to compensate for limitations.the more weight the more uncomfortable it will get.

I tow a 23' Rockwood Roo. Loaded and ready to camp I come in at around 6200 lbs. Tows like a dream other than mpg's. But I am towing and know it. And the truck is on 33's and weights in at 5800 lbs. Lol. I am supercharged and have OME'S and an equalizer hitch with sway control. Love it!
