Okay... so I like to run with my receiver hitches mounted due to frequency of use and the tailgating deterrent factor!
My problem is that I noticed surface rust so I hit it with some anti-rust lubricant and now its so loose the rattling is driving me nuts. I was thinking of lining the hitch shaft with either a plastic or rubber liner (insert condom joke here!) to stop the rattling but don't want to run into problems when I need to swap out hitches or transfer it to my other vehicles.
Has anyone here solved this problem with a simple solution?

If you have a welder or know of anyone who has one you can put a few spot welds in different locations on the shaft. May have to knock them down with grinder for proper fit.

I ran a couple beads length wise on mine.

Only works if you have a hollow ball mount.

A high grade Bolt, washer and nut will work too. Put some locktight on the threads and drill a hole in the end of the bolt for cotter pin. The finer the thread bolt you have the tighter you will get it. Crank it down as tight as you can get it. Who's going to be walking around with a 1" or 1 1/8" wrench to get it off.

I have also used a metal can to take up the slack.
