Pulling a camper

Has anyone had any experience pulling a camper? Looking at buying a 24-26 ft. I know it is within the weight range just wanted to get some feed back from somebody with experience. Thanks for the info. Also does having 4x4 make any difference in the way these trucks pull?

i havent pulled a camper... but i pull a 18ft deck 24ft overall length car hauler with buggies jeeps etc. ranging from 3,500lbs to 7,000lbs or a bit over. not a big deal. trailer brakes are a must. i drive mainly on flat ground a few hills. keep my rpm under 2,500... take my time. no real issues. but side wind isnt a factor like a camper.. 3.4 v6 auto 4x4.. hope that helps a little. some1 with camper pullin experience will chime in soon enough hopefully

 

Lots of folks towing right up against the limits.
You need a brake controller,
strongly suggest a weight distribution hitch, and a transmission cooler if your truck didn't come with it.

My camper is a 29' ultra lite Passport. Dry weight is 5100#.... it's quite a load but the Tacoma has handled it well for short trips.

Your gas mileage will SUFFER BIG TIME.

 

These trucks tow right up their limit just fine, if they are set up correctly. The only thing is don't expect it to peform like a 1 ton diesel. It will rev and make a little noise, but it'll be just fine. Mileage is the only bad part, but that comes with the capability. The 4X4 weight may help keep the front end planted.....But I've never driven a 2X....
