Depends on the engine or the towing capacity... No more than 5000lbs. IIR...

i would recommend a diesel if you're pulling a loaded horse trailer.

Welcome! If your gonna pull a horse trailer then I'd get an 05 and up Tacoma cause they have the bigger 4.0 V6 and can tow up 6500 pounds with the optional trailer package from toyota

Greetings Brit!

An 05 and later would be able to tow that much weight as long as the following conditions are met:
1) The trailer with horse weighs less than 6,500 lbs.
2) The truck has the optional tow package with the 6,500 hitch, 7 pic connector, and the "tow commander" is installed to run the trailer brakes.
3) The trailer is a bumper tow, not a fifth wheel.
4) I would recomend getting the transmission and oil coolers that come on the Texas trucks. Look on the upgrades section of the forum, so you know what you are looking at. I don't know if the upgrades are available in your area, I had to go all the way to El Paso, TX to get them. If the oil and tranny cooler's are not available as a factory option, you can have them installed aftermarket, but it will cost more.

As far as driving in snow goes, I have pushed through snow drifts with my 06, TRD Sport, and it just keeps going, and going, and going.
Just my $0.02.
Marlin

well im guessing a horse weighs 1000lbs? and if the trailer is 1000lbs as well thats 3k total. you should be able to tow that with a v6 first gen. i tow over 2k with a 97 4 cylinder.
