Toyota Sequoia or Nissan Armada?

Looking to upgrade to something bigger. My Tacoma has served me well, but long trips to the lake w/ the boat in tow and always being cramped with 4 people in it has lead me to consider moving on. I've found 2 an 07 Limited Toyota Sequoia and an 08 Nissan Armada. Both are about the same price/options just comes down to preference. I have always been happy with Toyota and know the Sequoia will serve me well. The downfall is that the Sequoia has a little bit small of a motor ie the 4.7 w/ 273 hp/tq and a small 6200 lb towing capacity. The Armada has a 317 hp w/ 380 something tq. Its a powerhouse w/ a 9k towing capacity. I'm just really worried about the reliability of the Armada compared to the Sequoia. Any thoughts suggestions would be appriciated.

i have no idea, they both look ok, but if you would like to keep versatility, imo the sequoia is basically a Tundra with and enclosed bed. so, you could look at tundras too, unless your'e tired of pickups

 

I'd go with the Armada. All the Nissans in our family have been just as dependable as our Toyotas, and that power advantage will make a huge difference towing. I've never been impressed with the 4.7...I'd think it'd be a dog in a big Sequoia with a boat. Good luck with whatever you decide!

 

I just want something that 6 people can ride in with the boat in tow so no i'm not tired of trucks, I'm prolly going to regret getting something new. My Tacoma has been an extremely reliable vehical, just need to be bigger.

If I get something new I want leather, and I really cannot aford a Limited Tundra Crew Max. My Dad has a 1st gen Tundy Dbl cab and it is slow so I can imagine how the Sequoia would be. But I'm going to give it a shot.

My family has always owned Toyota, I've heard great things about Nissan but never experienced it first hand. I think my mind has been made up. Just ashame I cannot find someone to buy my truck that will appriciate/take care of it as much as I have/do.

after owning a few nissans and my friends as well AND talking to my mechanic that works on both - if i wanted to keep a car beyond 100K miles it would definitely be a toyota over a nissan....

Dont want a bed, and if I wanted a bed it would be a Limited Crew Max Tundra

 

do you like to mod? i would research and see which suv has more aftermarket products.

 

I have no personal experience with either but if all things were equal I'd go Armada myself.

I can comment on the Armada. I have an 08' I purchased in the fall of 08' with 6k miles. It now has 67k miles, and has been the finest vehicle I've owned in terms of family function, maintenance and reliability. I have 3 kids, and it's our family machine. Since I've owned it, I've put on one set of tires, changed the oil with synthetic every 3,000 miles, put in a battery, and put in gas. That's it. Mines a 4wd and we live in Colorado, so it's been up and down the mountains, in nasty winter weather, and hot summers - and it hasn't flinched. Just did a family trip to SoCal for two weeks, and I couldn't think of a much better machine to do it in. Full baggage in the back, two kids in the third row, a teenager in the middle - and us up front. Kids watched movies, played games, had plenty of room to sleep comfy, and an ice chest full of drinks. 80mph across 11,000' mountain passes, 80mph across 115* desert and everything in between. Simply put, the truck kicks ass.

the new seqouias are NICE my buddy's mom has a 08 platinum edition and that thing is a monster. i love them

the 2nd gen sequoia has the 5.7 V8 too with 380hp and 401ft-lbs.

 

Out of the two, I'd pick the Sequoia. I had a Titan and they are similar to the Armada. I believe the Armada has IRS which is probably a good thing, because the solid dana 44 in the Titan sucks. The fuel milage from the Nissan 5.6 will average 12-13 mpg, and the Toyota 4.7 will be 15-16 mpg. I got rid of my Titan for a '06 Sequoia and it is by far a better ride. Very happy with it and for what you're towing, you'd be fine

 

I have a 2010 sequoia platinum 4x4.....seats 7 extremely well. The third row folds into the floor, so tons of storage in back . 5.7 engine is a beast! Moves the big sequoia around great. I have done light trailer towing (5x8 enclosed) and I never knew it was there.

An 08 or newer sequoia is the only way to go! I have seen 08 and 10s going mid thirties. Look at limited package for savings with all the beef.

 

My family has a 5.7L Sequoia 2012 and all I can say is I'm impressed. It gets okay gas mileage (avg 17 for us), really powerful (380hp and 401ft-lbs torque), high towing capacity (around 8k-9k), and seats 8 adults comfortably (with room to sit and relax). The only downside to it is the trunk, but I don't think it should be a problem.

 

I don't know much about the Armada but this Sequoia Platinum of mine pulls a toy hauler like a dream
