Difference between Gen.

I'm looking at buying a '08 tacoma trd off road sr5. How do I know if it's a 1st Gen or a 2nd Gen?

Its a second gen. In 2005 Toyota produced the second generation tacoma. So anything before that is a 1st gen, and anything 05 and later is a second generation. Its clear to see by photographs if you look at the bodes, just google up a 2004 tacoma and then a 2005.

Both generations produced great trucks, with different sets of pros and cons. Second gen is just the newest version.

Yep, 2nd Gen as everyone else stated, 2 completely different styles of truck. Check out the first gen section, I'm sure you kind find some pics to show you the difference.

I almost feel there should be more than just 2 generations.. like the 80s model.. and a 00s model.. both in same generation just doesn't seem right when comparing body styles

Wasn't it considered like the T-100 in the 80s or something? And the Tacoma came out in like 1995 or something? I don't know, don't know my Toyota lore very well

Thank you! There was some confusion when I read that it didn't have to do with the year. In the article I read it said something like there was 1st and 2nd Gen in every year. Thanks for straitening that out for me!

they may have but in 2000 still had T-100.. I just thought they all were tacomas (80-up) but that makes more sense now..

Before 95, it was the Hilux, most commonly referred to and known as simply "the Toyota Pickup." T-100's are totally different, and were made from '93 through '98.
