Talking 1st Time yota owner ..little help

Hello,
I just recently bought a 91 4x4 6 lug 22re regular cab an looking to make some upgrades an havent a clue where to look ..Hopefully some of you guys can point me in the right direction...

The shoes it came with are 31 super swampers on a steel 6 lug 15" rim.....I want to remove these an save them for the trails/mud/hunting..Ive been searching craigs list an found alot of sets of 6 lug newer tacoma wheels with great strret tires ..would any of these work?if not whats recomended...

Front suspension..I need shocks upfront .what fits ....could i fit a coilover or should i stick with plain bilstein an keep it simple?

Ive also thought of regearing it since the 5th gear doesnt get any use lol..

I heard theres a guy doug on here that is the master of the rear leaf package an would love to chat it up an hear his 2cents ...
ty much in advance ....

gotta run its raining an need to test the 4x4 on some puddles

newer tacoma wheels usually will not fit without wheel spacers.

front shocks, keep it simple. balljoint spacers for a small lift

gearing, what is your gear code now? probably 4:10

if you want to re-gear your IFS the cheapest way will be pick up a set of stock gears and swap it

your options more or less
4.30 auto trucks
4.88 v6 4x4 auto tow package 31x10.5 4runner
4.56 v6 trucks
4.10

If your going to buy gears other than stock swap cheapo then you may as well SAS it.

really dont have much info on what you want.. are you building the truck for one of us? lol

well i was looking to making it an everday reliable toy...i was trying to save these brand new mudders it came on for the trails not the road..so getting a whole other set of wheels with steet tires seemed smart for easy swapping...an i was going up a pretty good grade an noticed very quickly i down shift from 5th to 3rd an thought maybe regearing would help with that..over headers an exhuast....id like to keep her as stock as possible on the motor ...also the shocks looked worse then they are ..actually she was super fun an felt good with the little drive i took her on.

so i guess really the main question..is there a way to get power to 5th gear..is it worth it ...am i trading one evil for another?

Without adding considerable power, aka $$$ or swap then your option is gearing. And yes, it will be a form of trading one evil for another. But the happy medium. Personaly i like 4.37 gears (with my 31x11.5 swampers and 31x10.5 street tires) 5th gear is still pretty much useless on the highway on any decent grade but my 81 has a seriously tired 22r in it.

Also good idea on staying as stock as possible, they run the best that way.
