Just bought a 2012 Trd sport from dealership ( was a demo truck ) so no upgrades or anything on it yet. I was in a parking lot which was sheer ice and snow (no sand or gravel) and decided to have a tiny bit of fun.. kicked out the rear end just a bit and the front end started making a popping sound in fast repetition. It sounds similar to antilock brakes kicking in but is a bit louder and of course I wasnt on the brakes while it happened. I have tested it a couple times and it does it when the traction control system is on or off, and does it whether the rear tires are still spinning or not. Also does it in 4H or 2WD. As long as I am steering into a slide it makes this noise. Any ideas?

Anti skid . Toyotas idea to keep the truck on the road and out of the ditch .
Does it work ? yah , for the most part but takes the fun factor out of kicking the truck sideways in snow .
They apply the brakes when the trucks rear tires spin .
Lots of information on this site about it

I had a suspicion that this was "normal" but it sounds awful so wanted to ask anyhow. It sure does take the fun out of an icy parking lot.. lol. Thanks for the info:)

At a stop push and hold the VSC button for 5 seconds till the only light illuminated is VSC OFF

It's in the book they leave in the glovebox when you buy the truck
