My brother has a 97 4runner V6 4wd and we let his truck set for a week with the e brake up a while back and now his truck screeches whenever hes driving around. Is there any way to fix this and we havent used the E brake since it had the problems...I came accross the problem on the freeway with some violent shaking while driving that was fun lol. Is it a simple job to fix the e brake?

Maybe one of the brake shoes is out of adjustment. You can try to repetedly engauge and disengauge the E brake about 10 times, and see if that fixes it, or, you may have to take the rear brake apart, and manually adjust it.

We havent used the e brake for a couple of months since it first locked up and left it down so is it a bad idea to reengage?

The drum brakes are typically adjusted by the aplication of the E brake.

if it does work, spray some lube on all the moving parts. Sounds like something got a little rust built up on it

take the drum off and have someone work the ebrake..see if anything moves. May just be the cable is hanging up inside
