I can guarantee that is not how the 2016 Tacomas will look. Calm down, folks. We have seen nothing official.

I agree it doesn't look like that. I had previously said that Toyota is hiding their Tacoma test models, and no the new spy shots of January-build mule prove I was right.

Black one is a 4x4 and the camouflaged one is a 4x2.

Good find thanks! It appears from the first picture they are evaluating the global Ranger for comparisons. The third truck in line looks like a 2wd Ranger.

Thanks, looks like we've also come across a better look at it now. There seems to be a difference in design between 2WD and 4WD versions. It resembles the current 4Runner a bit.

WTF, back to the inboard shock mount on the rear axle? And it looks like the truck will lose LED tail lights, assuming they are final parts and not just placeholders.

Yea, hopefully the Taco won't look like a forced mating attempt between the current Hilux and Highlander...

So the brakes remain unchanged in the Hilux, ample 4-piston caliper in the front and drums in the rear. Good to see defroster grid in the rear window, too! Maybe there will be heated mirrors for a change. :D

More I didn't see before. Toyota's keeping a serious lid on this and their Tacoma "super-facelift".

I will be re-posting my original post with corrections, since I provided some inaccurate info (platform) and stupid Carsguide screwed with my original photo links from April. There's really nothing on the Tacoma end of things for 2016 models, so I'll focus on the other new truck until then.

These are all pictures of a prototype hilux. None of these will ever hit or shores.

I think this looks great. I know it's still just a rendering but I hope the new Taco looks close to this.

And? Are you trying alleviate perceived (by you) confusion or just question the necessity of this thread? I obviously know 10x over this is strictly not the '16 Tacoma from basic common sense, as well as personal knowledge.

The Hilux has been important to the Tacoma's history and as someone that is well acquainted with them overseas, I am investing in providing as much as possible information about its next generation, since there is nothing new on the Tacoma news front.

Everyone keeps obsessing about the GM twins (non-Toyota products), so there's no reason why this can't be of the least bit of relevance, when both the Tacoma and Hilux are even two important Toyota trucks, sold parallel in nearby Mexico. In Texas, AZ, Nevada, and Southern California, we are very likely to spot a late-model Hilux every now and then.

It is good that they're doing better with renders on these, than that uninspired render from Carscoops. I knew Toyota wouldn't drop the ball on the Hilux at least., as it just might be getting much more attention/investment than the Tacoma due next year. Unfair in my opinion.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .

OP, thanks for posting the great pics, info. and keeping us posted.

My buddy, who lives in MidlandTX ... still insists that Toyota has been testing their new goodies on a big ranch in another area in TX.

After owning a dozen large & small Toyota pickups, I will probably go back to a Tacoma.

Love my Ridgeline (especially the 2-way tailgate and "Subaru type" full-time-4-WD in the rain) ... but it is hell on gas and a bit too big for me. Quality is excellent and I love my "oil dipstick" that I can check.

However, If I could just get a "hybrid" of a Tacoma & Ridgeline (no rude comments please :D), I would be in love forever with that truck.

Anxiously awaiting new Tacoma & Ridgeline design(s) now.

I even looked at a GMC Canyon  ... (cut my tongue out) ... but I was impressed ...

Toyota needs to get a "New-Gen Tacoma" out much sooner than later and NOT have a plan B to wait 2 or 3 more years with a medium facelift now.

I have ... "Toyota in my blood" ... but my blood gets thinner ... the longer that I wait ...

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I wont trade my first gen for anything, too in love with this design now to go back to something bigger. And I imagine the third gen Tacoma will be even bigger than the 2nd gen. Like it or not, America is getting fatter and fatter, so our cars have to get bigger and bigger to accommodate us.

shame, I like the second gen size, I can sit far from the steerin wheel to drive, and my passengers need room.
