In 1985, my dad surprised us all and traded his 1981 Celica for a brand new 1985 SR5 "Xtra" cab. It was just like the one below but his was a light tan color, had a black grille and bumper, and had the small vent windows. It did have the same stripes and wheels on it. His was a 5 speed with the new "EFI" motor. I think the engine was a 2.4 liter making around 115hp. That truck ran flawless. Rust is what ruined the truck.

Anyways, just sitting here bored and remembering his old truck.

Yes, I love old Toyota pickups. When I was growing up, my grandma had one of these:

This isn't it, but it was one very similar and it had the EFI 22RE under the hood, thing was impressive for having to haul all that weight around. She never had trouble with it either in all the years she owned it, it probably only had the oil changed maybe a handful of times and was driven all over the place. My grandma wasn't knowledgeable about vehicles at all so lots of the maintenance it needed was neglected but it never let her down. I had the opportunity to have it as a graduation present for high school and I turned her down. Kicked myself ever since, despite the neglect to the engine, the camper itself was in immaculate shape and everything worked flawlessly in it. Now some local redneck here in town owns it and it is probably a wreck inside, but I still see it driving around every now and then. A reminder of my ignorance for letting it go. Ah well, live and learn.
