Me either, it's crazy! Look at some of the other vids on that guy's channel, they do some crazy shit. Really put them old yota trucks to the test.

Op, I know a guy in the hood with one pretty much like yours, only beat up worse. He still uses it to winch on trees to clear lots. I don't think he's tuned it for ten years, yet he cant kill it. Those oldies die real hard.

Yeah, they are damn tough. Glad I have something now I can take into the woods and not really worry about it. My Jeep was always a disaster, a day in the woods meant a weekend repairing something on it that would break from wheeling.

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of the 20R vs the 22R engine? Everyone tells me the 20 is just a tad better because it has a double row timing chain with a metal guide instead of a one row with a plastic guide that was really prone to break on the 22R. Thoughts?

Well guys, got some good news! SHE RUNS!!! Despite 10 years of sitting, she fired right up with a battery, and a shot of gas to prime the carb. Doesn't want to stay running (fuel pump or filter is likely bad), but the engine sounds normal and is firing on all cylinders!! Turns out, the thing has a 22R under the hood, I scraped some gunk off the side of the block and found a plate that has "22R" engraved in the casting so somewhere along the line, the old 20R was swapped out for the 22R. Anyway, that's where I'm at right now, going to mess around with it some more tomorrow and will update again. Probably get a video up of the old beast running!

They make a double row timing chain for the 22r. LCEngineering has them

Those are still some cool rigs! I've never even heard of a Nissan Patrol, were they in other countries or something?
Awesome, how hard are they to install? I definitely want to do that, the single row timing chain seems to be the achilles heel of the 22R.

Well, guys yesterday I spent a good part of the day working on the '79, while it will run on a prime, it won't pick up fuel so I ran tests through the carburetor and gas lines to find some lines plugged or full of holes. The carburetor itself has about 20 vacuum leaks. Relatively simple repairs that I hope to be able to address shortly. It's freezing cold and snowing outside today so my motivation level to go work on the truck is nearly nonexistent. Once it warms up I will get back to it.

I know many of you are waiting on updates, and I have the truck in my shop on my hoist right now and started tinkering on it last weekend. Just been busy as hell lately, going to a new jobsite on Monday and I will be roped into work for 9 days straight, but after that when I get on a regular schedule again, I will go work on the Toy on my days off. I found a used Weber carburetor for it, now just to get some useable fuel lines. I don't want to buy new because that is spendy as fuck and the key here is not to spend a whole bunch of $$ on the truck just yet until I can get it in running, driving condition and drive it around for awhile and make sure it will be worth putting more dollars into.
