Hi first off i just did a motor swap about a month ago on my 88 toyota 4x4 and the motor came from a 86 4runner and it strats and runs but its misses well like i can take off in 1st gear and it wont miss then i can shift to 2nd and it will do fine till i push the gas so far down to try to pick up speed then it starts missing and sputtering till i shift to 3rd then there on out same issue! I put new plugs on the truck and i got brand new plug wires and rotor but i cant use them cause the dam truck uses male ends on all the plug wires and coil pack as to my new rotor and wires are female! But odd thing is it didnt do it with the original motor so im thinking its something else.

Also i found this pipe sucking air into the motor! what the heck is it? my other motor didnt have this

and should it have a filter on it? i was thinking about hooking a hose to it and running it in the breather unless some one can tell me what it originaly hooks to.

It's the auxillary air valve. There should be a hose from it to the air box (i think).

See that ball looking thing on the bottom left? It the resonator. It should have a pipe(hose) for the auxillary air vavle into it, then you can see the other hose that runs along the main intake. It goes into the air box.

It's part of the EFI system. You swapped RE motors?

EDIT: TOTAL brain fart........carb motors didn't have air boxes

I found some difference from year to year. But I think you need to get this style air box.
