This is Travis' 96 4runner. He's on the Yotatech forum. (Sweet Trav) Some of you may remember this truck as it's the one I did sliders and the rear bumper on. Now it's time for the front tube winch bumper. It won't be a huge gawdy mess with a billboard for a skid plate, it will flow nice and probably end up having 2 separate smaller sized skid plates with dimple die holes. Strong and tasteful is the plan. Enough said, here are some pics....

Did the weld on sliders a while back

Did the rear bolt - on wrap around bumper a while back

this fugliness needs to go bad!

    fugliness gone!

time to make some solid mounting points, the tin foil has to go

sleeved this is for 1 bolt of many more to come

my caps with 1/2" threaded hole for grade 8 bolt

painted and moving onto more sleeving behind the body mounts

project 4runner is starting to take shape....before (sort of)

now...I'll post winch bumper build pics as I go.

Alright....finally doing the front winch bumper. He bought Bud Built skid plates so I don't have to worry about underneath, but this bumper will have it''s own little steel & tube skid plate with dimple die holes in the plate of course, right under the winch plate. This is a 10,500 lb Recon winch that's similar to a Warn from what he says.

The bumper will have the main area you see here, then it'll have tubes that wrap around the side a little with the little handle things on the ends, 2 shackles, 2 brackets for a removable tow bar, (if it were mine, a receiver hitch for pushing trailers into tight spots....and a beer opener, but I don't think it's going to for him) and probably a couple light mounts, but his current plans are to run 2 lights on a roof rack.

This is where I'm at so far, the tubes and mini skid plate will be next week.

A few more pics...the area behind the bumper that's still a bit fugly will get a pair of off smaller off road lights that will shine down onto the corners of the ground in front for night wheelin'. The reason I didn't trim the visible sheet metal on the core support yet is because I wasn't sure if there were going to be turn signals mounted there or not. He chose to eliminate OEM front signals and incorporate them into the side markers by drilling a little hole and mounting them inside with the running lights.. There may end up being a pair of lights hanging from the main tube in the center, he's not sure yet since he plans on having a roof rack with a pair there.

The winch wasn't wired up yet in these pics which is why the rope is all over the place in front. Also pictured is a thick 1/4" removable skid plate I made that covers 2 of the winch bolts to help to deter loser thieves, and fills the open area that sticks and rocks could find there way through. I was originally going to do a little tube skid plate with a removable aluminum plate with the infamous dimple die holes to match the rear bumper, but at that point he was putting the pressure on due to a camping trip, and this plate was the quicker answer.

btw...this front bumper is attached using 10 grade 8 bolts, and the 4 main ones are sleeved through the frame, it isn't going anywhere. This isn't your run of the mill aftermarket winch bumper that bolts on using grade 5 bolts & washers, it's the real deal. What trips me out is the winch is held on with 4 smallish grade 5 metric bolts, pretty crazy.

More pics...he got his Baja Rack on. This truck will be featured in a magazine shoot soon. His friend writes for the magazine and he'll be giving props to 2 people...Beefed Off Road Armor and Baja Roof Racks. I made the sliders and the front & rear bumper. I'll post better pics when his friend & him take some in the dirt where it belongs. waytogo_82a2dcfcbf91b28330a7f12007d2d5959649daa3.gif

Thanks for the compliments guys. For the winch....it was definitely a good deal compared to the big name manufacturers', but I don't think the poor thing has even been used and last I heard Travis was selling the 4R since he picked up a new ride that I did sliders on a while ago.

I'll never understand why peoole choose to dump a bunch of $ into their rig only to sell it..?
