If you are looking for a trail rig you can always try TTORA. I was looking there for one before I bought my new truck.

Looks really nice - but...it's a 4cylinder.

If you're gonna build something - get a 6cylinder or else you'll have to run some high gears just to get yoru power back with big tires.

looks like its in good shape, but i want something that already looks like its been hit by a tornado. i dont want to pay for an "excellent condition body". plus its an auto. if i were getting a truck i would want a manual, although i would take an auto in a 4runner

yeah i was thinking the same thing, seems like the new I4 would have enough power to be able to handle big tires but something old like that probably needs to be a 6

It shouldn't have anything to do with 'age' (per say). The 4cylinders are great (and cheap), but you gotta gear soooo high with big tires just to get the power back (so to speak). When I say 'power' - I mean....power for the highway if you drive the rig to the trails.

Kinda like stepping on the gas to pass someone and nothing happens....

On the flip side, if you don't regear (or don't regear too high)...you lose power on the highway but gain a slower crawl ratio and thicker gear teeth (for strength).

I always say, if you're gonna build it...you might as well get the power up front or else you'll be wishing you did later on.

when i was talking about power and age i meant that the old 4 cyl didnt have nearly as much stock power as the new 4cyl.
