I'd like to get BAMF to fab it up, I'd love to be able to throw another of their creations on it!

Started with a bone stock 86 for $600, a clutch and a few mods later I had this..
    DSC00717_zpsca5b356d_c9d513f7532b7215d2118071039471937076bcab.jpg

Until this happened about 6-8 hard months later.....
    DSC00716_zps0603715d_d139058dd77b8eb07d819c20c594ae14bb7c4541.jpg

Not wanting to fix the 86 I moved on to my next 87 I bought off a buddy for $1000
    DevosYota5_zps96172df7_05834b3f35482d7d34ddc24325e3ac5e21d9d531.jpg

A lot of time and work later I had turned it into this.

    Posing4_72d0c1a63dc503d0a33d6b249c9aeb632910f7b5.jpg

Then I screwed up, traded it off for a Lifted Chevy and blew the motor 2 weeks later.......

About 2 years down the road I found this 81 for $600, a new clutch and I was good to go
    IMG_2310_71ff7a2f9a8570a9f3ff2dd4dc87fe51f522ec50.jpg
Then I also picked up this 87 4runner in a trade.
    IMG_4088-1_zpsc28116e5_4f8b695e92c418814b6e19ee2ca3b8f42c2f4c18.jpg

Gutted the 4runner and stripped the 81 down to build a 22re powered 1st gen, As it sits now, still a work in progress.

I have an 82, that spent most of it's life in Az. It's been a great little truck all the years I've owned it. I finally had to take the camper off though, as it seemed to drag the wind a bit too much for daily driving. I still have the camper, I just don't leave it on. That guard on the front is a classic old school Warn winch mount. They sold the hell out of those back in the 80's. It has the embossed Warn W's on the front.

TxFireman that is a sharp looking 82! Love the look with the camper on there. I bet you would fab up a Yakima or similar wind deflector in front of the camper to help with the wind problem.

I feel your pain with the wind drag...it's noisy, too! But I love having the campershell. Don't have to worry about shit getting stolen out of the bed.

I actually thought about doing that for a while. In the end though, time was an issue and taking it off was just faster. I've also thought about getting a frame/bed from another junked yota and making a pull along camper set up.

Yeah, I do miss that aspect of it. But on some of the really windy days, it was a work out for the ol 4 banger to stay up at the 75mph highway speeds I was doing. It helped that a lot taking it off. The nad thing was it had a lot of permanently built lower storage bins that I had to remove when I took the shell off. They were wooden and not able to hold up to weather.

Oh, yeah, the v6 helps a bit there, but I definitely do notice any wind. Do you have any pictures of the storage bins? Right now I'm just chucking everything in there and strapping it down in various places, but I have wanted to build something to keep everything in place and then have a sleeping platform, too, for a while now.

I might have some, I have to dig through my photobucket album and see what I have. I know I have several shots of the 82 when I got it. Not sure if there will be any great shots of the bins.

Not the best, and might be a bit small.

    82_4x4_02_2_.jpg

In this pic you can sort of see them. They made a U shape along the sides & across the front of the bed. Flush lids all around that locked. If you look close, on the bed floor, under the matt you can see a white flat sheet of plywood. That piece fits perfectly in the gap or space that is formed between the bins, and there was a support kept in a bin. It went across the end near the door, and the sheet sat on top of that. It would form a smooth surface across the whole bed span where you could put a mattress or sleeping bed pad.

Other little things are, a fold down CB antenna mount on the front of the roof rack. Along the side of the roof rack, there is a piece of angle iron that pivots on the back end, and has a notch up front that holds down with a wingnut. When camping, you loosen the wingnut and pivot the iron over and it extends out the back of the rack and the notch is used to hold a lantern. The original owner had the camper custom built, and made sure the rear door was as wide as the wheel wells to be able to get items in that would fit between the wells.
