2000 Toyota 4runner trans issue

    Grill color matched, shifter ball, shell, 5100's all the way around.....
    Wondering if anyone has any advice about a manual transmission on a toyota 4 runner. A friend is buying a 2000 from a private owner and the gear shift pops out of 1st gear everytime you try and take off. So they have been starting out on 2nd. Any ideas of what the fix is for this?
