Is there any easy way to tell if your rack and pinion steering may be gettin weak? Mine seems to have more slack than I was expecting. This is my first Tacoma. -00' Tacoma 4x4 w/2.7

IIRC, that is normal on rough terrain. My 98 was like that and my 05 tundy is the same way. Have you replaced the rack bushings?

Its making a lot of a rattling sound while driving offroad? If so, replace the steering rack bushings with the polyurethane ones. Get them from Wheeler's. Great service there.
