Question on OME Lift?

Hey guys, I really like to OME 3" lift and have heard that the ride is great on and off road. I want to lift my truck and really want to do it right in all aspects. The only thing that is stopping me from buying a lift today is I not want to hurt the truck, I dont want the shudder!!! I do notice that there are a few things that that come in the ultimate lift that dont in the OME (Swaybar relocates and shims). So basicly I want to know if i would need these for the OME kit? And to do a lift correctly are there any other parts or items that aren't in the OME kit I should get so that I dont have any issues? Also add any advice for a lifting new-b that might be helpful.

Solid choice by going with OME. I had the dakars and nitrocharger shocks on my old truck and loved them. They were great for everything from wheeling to working.

The only reason my icons came with a relocation bracket is because they can't fit around the coilover (I think, I didn't reinstall the swap bar). If OME uses a smaller c/o they wouldn't have this problem.

The only thing to really worry about with the OME lift is getting the right spring rate, after that it's all butter and running down kangaroos in the outback.

When it doubt, go ARB is a pretty safe rule of thumb.

Not everyone gets the Vibes. The only thing aside from the kit I would suggest you get would be UCA's, check out fatbobsgarage.com, great price on light racing.

The OME gear is nice!

I would include the carrier bearing drop kit, I found that really helps a lot!.

I would go with the 884's unless you have a double cab in which I would go with the 885's.
(unless you plan on running a new aftermarket steel bumper)

i have the 885s with my OME lift and there is barely a shudder about 5mph to 15 mph...other than that, it's great.

Can you please post EVERYTHING a person will need to purchase to gain a true three inch lift? I know I want the OME shocks on all for corners, the 885's up front and the leaf pack in the rear.

If it helps, I drive a 2010 Prerunner.

If yo get the 885 coils, you are probably going to need UCAs.
Why not go with the 884s, and a 1/4 inch top plate spacer to gain some additional lift.
i have the 884s without a top plate spacer and is about 2.5 inches of lift, no shudders or vibes, no UCAs.

The 885s are 10mm longer than the 884s, so the need of a top plate would be unnecessary. Top plates are an additional $60.

Toytec and OME leaf issues


Derrick,
I have a 97 Tacoma 4x4. I installed the Toytec front coil over with the OME cs019r rear leafs with third leaf from the bottom ( is this correct) removed. Very rough ride so did I remove the right leaf ( the thick one third up) per Toytecs suggestion? After the install, I have severe vibrations at take off to 30 mph. When coasting at higher speeds I hear rattling for a moment when letting off the gas.
In need of severe help. I can not remove the third leaf down due to it being the leaf with the spring keeper loop riveted in.


I asked an ARB tech. Nils Bull and here is his response(

You've removed an overload leaf from each pack which hasn't changed the
primary spring rate of the pack and therefore hasn't changed the ride
quality or the height of the truck. The secondary, or overload, rate has
been changed which doesn't come into effect until after the arched
leaves flatten out with a heavy load in the truck. Additionally, if the
truck does end up carrying a heavy load there is no long overload to
support the rest of the pack and the arched leaves will be bent
backwards over the remaining short overloads and consequently damaged
beyond repair. The overload leaves must be put back into the packs.

The proper leaf to remove is "the third leaf down", meaning count the
top leaf as number one and count down to number three. In the case of
the CS019R it will be the bottom arched leaf. The vibration issues
should go away once you lower the truck by removing the correct leaves.

Part of the harshness you're feeling, although you will be better able
to judge this once the correct leaves are removed, is likely due to the
Bilstein shocks. Bilstein's are a high pressure monotube shock which
translates to a much firmer ride then a comparable low pressure, dual
tube, shock such as OME. Additionally, The Bilstein is likely not valved
correctly for your particular vehicle but instead selected based on open
and closed lengths and mounting style. OME shocks are valved
specifically per application and spring rate thus offering a premium
ride quality over most other brands.
