I found your wine glasses Lisa (although you probably already have these ones)

We also found a little snow...

That was up on Mt Washburn which my GPS marked at about 8800 ft in elevation. It didn't snow at Mammoth or Roosevelt.

I like the "get lost...in MT" catch phrase :D

Mooses and wines.... I would prefer a set of the moose mugs from National Lampoon's Xmas though.

I figured Washburn/Dunraven would see more snow...like a different world up there!
Hope you guys had a good trip and got to see everything you wanted!

It snowed in most of the high mountains across the state last weekend - it was COLD!!! Its a little unusual but it happens on occasion.

Could have been better, but for the most part any time in Yellowstone is time well spent. We only did 2 very short hikes (Tower Falls on down to the river and to Trout Lake). It rained almost non stop and we didn't have rain jackets with us (for whatever reason we didn't think to check the weather, I think it's because we already had the room reserved so we were going rain or snow haha). We went through every single entrance to the park in the 2 days we were there and saw all of the big game except for a bear or wolf, well and the only moose we saw was technically not in the park (she was hanging out by Pahaska). But given all the rain I figure we were lucky to see much more than bison. We got stuck behind a bison for almost an hour as he slowly walked down the road and thanks to on coming traffic stopping to take pictures it made it really hard to go around him... I swear the line of traffic we were in the middle of was up to 100 cars:eek: Overall I didn't feel like it was very busy, in fact less so than the last time we went in July. I'm guessing the forecast of rain scared a lot of people off.

 I thought I warned you about that? Oh well, now you know that you need to pack for all four seasons regardless of the time of year you're visiting!

I hate it when people stop on the road to take pictures...just pull over for god's sake! And if the buffalo are on the road they will stop if the traffic stops. If you keep moving, even just coasting along at 3mph, they keep moving.

That was the case. The buffalo trotted along the road at about 3 mph for several miles... It took us an hour to finally get up to him and get around him and who knows how long for the ridiculous number of cars lined up behind us...

I always confused these. Bison are in the states. Buffalo are not. :)

Went down to Grand Teton this past weekend...
saw a grizzly and her cub on the way, they both looked very fat and happy. they'll be fine this winter
    _MG_6414_zps321d2edd_727bdaf6bc3b0c6954ec015f84efa48491abcd76.jpg
then a momma moose and her calf interrupted my lunch break
    _MG_6465_zpscb6905db_94ac3ac8c2e750dac4a602659224e30bc7158477.jpg
and I spotted another moose cow/calf pair and almost walked right into a doe deer and her fawn

Then while I was out hiking I heard some noise above me - helicopter. At first I was annoyed because there is a company doing sight seeing tours down there but they've promised they won't be a nuisance to hikers and other visitors. All I had with me was my basic camera lens, didn't bring the big guy hiking with me, but I could make out the chopper if I zoomed in. That's when I noticed the basket hanging below (about center of the pic). It wasn't a sight seeing flight, it was a rescue flight! Apparently a hiker fell while scaling a section of rock and had to be lifted off of the mountain. It was his lucky day in a way - all of the rescue crews were off duty for the season but a few guys were still around and were planning on heading home the next day. Since they were still there they went ahead and flew up to rescue him.

It'll be on the bike. In the early planning stages but plan on meeting some friends in Denver then heading north through Wyoming, Montana to Banff, Alberta. Of course we'll be going through Rocky Mtn. NP, Tetons, Yellowstone, the Beartooth, Glacier NP before crossing the border. Can't wait to get back out there. Still want to bring the Taco out there sometime and get off the beaten path.

I want to go to Banff again someday. I drove through (not a lot of stops) on my way to AK years ago. Gorgeous! Really wanted to spend more time there then but it just wasn't in the cards at the time.

Final camping trip of the year this weekend... :pout: ...so I'm ending the season in the best place possible...YELLY! :yay: Might as well go out on a high note right?

Hopefully camping in Mammoth Hot Springs and being serenaded to sleep by bugling elk. My only goals for the trip are that and to get a picture of an elk bugling in the morning at such an angle that you can see his breath. Kinda like this...
Maybe a fight between a couple of bulls would be nice. Oh! And swans...the trumpeter swan migration is due to be in full swing so maybe I'll get to see them as well. And lots of campfire time and smores and no tourists!

That would be cool. We saw a couple young deer bucks mixing it up in a creek outside Capitol Reef, but we were whizzing by in the truck to start our 4x4 leg, so no pics. Also saw a couple pronghorn in a cow pasture. Barely noticed them because of all the cows, and I thought, those two look odd...

BTW I recommend smores with caramel sea salt chocolate paired with Lagavulin 16 yo. The peaty smoke of the scotch is perfect for campfire snacks!

    Yes, guilty of glamping. :anonymous:
