My wife & I will be celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary next May and are starting to think about places to go. What would be everyones top 10 places to visit in the US?

I was thinking maybe northern CA via HWY 101 on through the Redwoods National Park up through Oregon and maybe even onto Seattle if we could do all of it in 5-6 days? She's more into warm weather, beaches, & exploring cities while I'm more of an outdoorsman enjoy traveling to National Parks for some light hiking, scenic drives, etc. Places that we could get a good mix would be perfect!

We went out to Vegas and the Grand Canyon a few years ago so we want to go some place else this time. We really enjoyed that trip because it was the perfect mix for each of us however.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
If you're wife is into warm weather, Northern California on highway 101 might be a bit chilly. It stays pretty cool almost year-round. That and it tends to get foggy. Probably around 45-60 degrees on average. But it is beautiful. I'd recommend anyone do it at least once. I think you're 5 day plan going from Northern California up to Oregon might be doable. It does take a long time to drive up the coast because the road is very windy. There are many small towns you can stop in on the way. Make sure and stop in Fort Bragg, which has a beach made out of crushed up beer and soda bottles from years of trash being thrown over the edge by the military base there. Its pretty amazing. There's also a Russian Fort along the way called Fort Ross. Its really cool to look at.

You might want to consider driving through Sonoma county and hit up all the wineries. Your Wife would probably like that. Just be aware of how drunk you can get just tasting wine. It sneaks up on you.

I would say Jackson Hole, Wyoming. My wife and I love going there. Then you could swing up to Yellowstone. Just my $0.02...

America has so many gems to choose from...

I vote for Yosemite National Park.

Stay at the plush Tenaya Lodge for great food and amenities and get in all your hiking and scenic drives in during the day. We did that for our honeymoon years ago.

They have three groves of Giant Sequoias to visit too.

My wife & I rented a motorhome for 6 days when we lived in San Diego and took a trip up the coast to Monterey & back. Overnighted first night on the beach just north of Ventura, then stayed at Morro Bay, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey, and Jalama State Beach on the way home. It was one of our favorite trips ever. Point Reyes just south of Carmel has some of the most spectacular beach-side hiking trails in California, really worth spending a few hours there.

    The Blue Ridge Highway!!
Acadia National Park, Maine Rt 1 up the coast.
    Sedona, Arizona & the G.C.
    Hwy 101 (your vote)
The White Mtns of NH, especially Mt Washington and its Grand Hotel.

    My ultimate personal fav is
    Anywhere in Montana :)
Go to Gate of the Mountains outside Helena, then head up to Marysville for the most incredible restaurant in this awesome Ghost town and ski area. Also plenty of horseback ranches to go for a nice guided switchback ride. Then ...
You can shoot down to Yellowstone and/or head up to Glacier NP, take your pick. I flew into Great Falls, went to Yellowstone, back up to Helena then to Glacier, flew back out of Great Falls.

Makes me want to travel again.
Wish you the best trip/annivsary! :)

Your wife would probably like all of these places especially in the spring. She also might like Santa Barbara if she wants to check out a city. Just head up the Pacific Coast Highway.

Since you live in Kentucky, you're probably already familiar with the Blue Ridge Mnts. If not, take the Parkway either way but make sure and do The Tail of The Dragon; 318 turns in 11 miles. Great on a scooter!

    Grand Tetons are spectacular!
