Driving from FL to SF - Tips wanted...New Orleans, Grand Canyon, etc...

I am going to be driving from FL back home to the Bay Area and wanted to know if anyone had any tips on places to stop along the way.

We are def going to hit New Orleans, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and inbetween. Don't need any tips on Vegas, used to stay months on end...

1. Any must see sites you think we should stop along the way and see?
2. Any good eats we should stop and partake in?
3. Any nice places worth staying overnight in, such as hotels, motels?
4. Any restaurants, areas or hotels we should stay away from?

Thanks for your suggestions, leaving in a week or 2!

 

For New Orleans, it really depends on what you're into.

Places of interest in NO:

Jackson Square
(artists - depends on the mix at the time; horse and carriage ride is fun and informative, St. Louis Cathedral)

Music on Bourbon street - just walk and listen, in May when I was there they closed off Royal Street on Saturday and had a different musician/group on every block. That was great.

World War 2 Museum (if your are into that)

Aquarium of the Americas

Restaurants:

On Bourbon Street - Arnaulds (pricey but good), Remoulades (casual side of Arnoulds and lower price, good food)

On Poydras - Mothers (great sandwiches and I love their bread pudding)

On Decatur - Central Grocery (home of the muffuletta)

Cafe du Monde at the French Market for coffee and beignets

Hotels:

Depends on where you want to be located. Anything on Poydras or Canal toward the river will be walking distance to the French Quarter. I stayed in the Hilton Riverside (attended a conference) and it is nice, but pricey...$200 a night.

This is just a quick list from my last trip. Some of those guys down south will be able to give a lot more info.

If you are going to be on the go during the day near the French Quarter, the streetcar pass is great. Once price and you can ride as much as you want on any of the streetcars till 4:00am the next morning. More than enough time to get back to the hotel from Bourbon Street...lol. They run on St. Charles, Canal, and Riverfront.

FABENS, TX..nothing there except a delicious steak house. Cattlemans land and cattle company. i would stop.

Make sure you remember where you park your car in N.O. You will enjoy Pensacola if you make it there. The National Aviation Museum is a must see. If you pass through on a tues or wed you can see the Blue Angels practicing. If your on I-10, look left as you get to the west side of Mobile bay and you'll see the USS Alabama. This is all free shit so you can save your money for Biloxi. Have a safe trip.
