Idk what the deal is here, my EB towed 8k lbs and I didn't feel anything behind me, it had balls too, hit the gas and the tires spin, I got 22 mpg on the highway and it was complete luxury.. even the seats had A/C lol, I also live in a humid environment (Houston) and never an issue with it. But comparing a taco to an F150 is apples and oranges.

I heard from a friend who owns one that towing even 2000lbs causes the mpg to drop to around 12. I've read this on other forums too. Idk if these are just anomalies or what? What mpg did you see while towing and did you calculate it or just use the in-dash system?

When I tow 2000 in my taco I get 17 highway.

I agree that they are beautiful set ups. My friend can live in his crew cab if he wanted. Long but very nice.

My opinion is this, considering my father has a '12 Tundra CMOF 4x4.
He came from a 2003 GMC Sierra he bought new, and in early 2011 he started having trouble: replaced tranny, fuel system, etc albeit old truck high miles already, But shopping at GM dealers, the most recent chevy or gmc trucks with the SLE package( what his 03 sierra was), added $15k in price and lost features, such as rear disk brakes(new 2012 had drum), cheap interior, wheels, etc.
He started doing research and the best thing was the Tundra, his truck came with the 5.7 SR5 package, and 4X4 TRD Off Road package, but to get the same power rating, towing, brakes, and interior package, he would have to jump into a GMC Sierra Denalli, which cost $10k more then the Tundra.
His truck gets consistant 20-22MPG on the highway, and I am also a firm believer in there is no replacement for displacement. GM and Dodge still use N/A motors to drive their vehicles with good maintainablility, but what is the reliablility of a small forced induction V-6 compared to an unstrained V-8?

The only other truck I would own besides a tundra at this point is an f250. Turbocharged 6? Nope. Incedentally, did you guys see that new nissan titans will have the option of a cummins turbo diesel? Cool except for how flimsy their truck is. Maybe they will fix that too?

If the companies were married, Ram would have had to deal with the Navistar... but then everything about the truck would suck and not just what wraps the engine. It would also have made the F series the best Diesel truck available.

But no.... Take your pick... best truck with the worst engine, best engine with the worst truck, or compromise with a Duramax.

I think its going to be a tough decision. Toyota quality vs. a truck with a better configuration for my needs that might not be so reliable. Ford offered me $29K for my Taco, and the salesman at Toyota said he could get me back the $31K I paid for it last year. We shall see...

From what I've heard the Ecoboost problem was grossly exaggerated. Look how many F150's they sell and consider they were having a 50% take rate on the Ecoboost. There are A LOT of them out there. Sure you can go on forums and see people complaining. That's only a small portion of the trucks bought. It's kind of like all the outsiders to Toyota that just assume every single Toyota truck will rot and fall a part in a couple years. While it's certainly not an accurate sample size by any means but I know numerous people who have the EB's and none of them experienced the problem.

I would have gotten an F150 had I wanted to spend more money on a new truck. I didn't want suicide doors again so would have had to go for the crew and I won't get anything with less than a 6' bed and preferred the FX4 with a few options. That was quickly approaching 50k spec'd out as I wanted. So I came back to reality and picked up the Tundra. Looked at a 2014 Tundra for shits and giggles yesterday just to see one in person. Still do not like the front end at all. I do wish I had the interior though. They did a very good job upgrading that.

Id take a Tundra over Ecobust. Usual Ford crap. When the 08 6.4L twin turbo diesel came out they were saying it was way better than Duramax and Cummins, it lasted 2 years. Duramax has been around for around 15 years now, Cummins even longer. Same thing with the Ecoboost, its a new engine and theyre coming out and saying its better than everything. Let me save everyone the breath, new fords are shit. How can you just come out with a BRAND NEW product and say it's better than things that have been around for years. Prove it Ford! Iv'e seen "reviews" of clowns coming on and saying they "already" have 5k miles on their ecoboost with "no problems". Put 150k on over 8 years of moderate to hard use, then write a review.

FWIW I know numerous people with them who love them and have had no issues. Lets be real, if Toyota did the same thing and had some new engine that they claimed was best everyone here would be swooning over it lol. Besides, the Ecoboost isn't really "new" the 3.5L Ecoboost itself has been around for 7 years. It's not like all the other engines in the segment have been around forever. Toyota's 5.7L is only a year older, the engines in the new GM trucks while sharing the same displacement are new this year. The 5.6 in the Titan has been around the longest with no changes. The Ram Hemi has been around nearly a decade with a few tweaks.

I love the new F-150s and have considered getting one. I have not driven an ecoboost so I can't comment on that motor. I have driven a Raptor offroad and it was killer. I think the "American" trucks have some nicer features and better MPG than the Tundra, but at the end of the day, when I have my wife in the middle of nowhere camping and need to make it home without a breakdown? I'll take Toyota every time.
