After looking at the transmission I found that overdrive was mia- a common problem with 00-02 models being the od planetary gears go kaput.
I noticed 00-02 transmissions were around $1200 for a high mileage used one- probably because the sell alot of,them for these years... Anyways, after doing some research I found that 03-04 trannies will work without any modification and they have an updated od planetary planetary making these transmissions pretty much bulletproof compared to the earlier generation. Best of all the 04-06 transmissions can be had at a fraction of the cost probably because the junk yards never sell them and most people dont know they will work with the early tundras

this is the transmission I ended up with.

I had about $400 in it by the time I figured in fluid and shipping charges. Got it shipped for $100 to a friend's place of business.

it was a pretty easy install as far as transmissions go we had the old one out in less than 2 hours took about the same time to get the new one in.
Ive been driving it for a couple months now.
It gets a consistant 14.5 mpg mixed city/hiway which is only 1 mpg worse than my tacoma.
It does have a cel on which is a lean code. I bought a new fuel pump and filter for,it and hopefully it will take care of all that.

    Thanks!
I really like the drivetrain compared to my 3rz powered tacoma.
I changed out the fuel pump- mainly because its got almost 300k on it- with a used junkyard replacement that had 74k on it. Put a new fuel filter in as well.
its night and day difference, alot more power and way more responsive. Got rid of the P0171, P0174 cel's also. Not sure if the pump was causing the cel or the filter but I could tell the truck was starved for fuel as it would fall on its face for a split second when you floored it.. Now it just wants to light up the tires.

Its been on a couple 1100 mile road trips without a hitch.
Took some of my income tax and put on some 265/75 bfg ats and lt mod aluminium wheels0214151816a_zpskxes70y0_40e2bb5851bd17b17d6d8b18704c26a330da1f3c.jpg[/URL0214151815c_zpsy10sxmky_60e78e1688c5040bc2b0fe760e569e61b051e00e.jpg

Makes me want a 4.7 in my Tacoma, my 3.4 gets the same mileage with half the power. Jelly here! I'd love a 5.7 under my hood too haha.

just got a simple lift on her
    sweet truck!

    question:
with the way the winch is mounted, it looks like it would bend the bumper under some use..... is the bumper tied into the frame at all where the winch is mounted?

    Knuckleduster27 great looking tundra! I should know I have a similar 2002 ^__^

I have a question for you, im about to order some black wheels and see that you have the Pacer 164B LT's--what offset are yours (-6)? Would you think these would would work for my Tundra with 265/70/16's? No rub issues etc?

Very grateful for some help brotha!

Awesome, thanks a lot for that info!

Now to decide between -12 and -6. I think your -6 looks perfect but my best option right now $$ wise is a -12mm. Tough decisions

Are you using a rings to make these wheels hub centric?
