1st Gen Turbo discussion

Gadget, looking into the CXRacing Turbo kit. I dont have the $$$ currently but doing some research.

Here is what Im looking at:

- Tunner/Fuel upgrade ($1300, 255L pump and 420cc injectors, Iridium plugs):

URD doesnt have a kit for the 1st gen thats realy compatible with a turbo setup but I was looking at your AFR and MAF sensor calibrator. I think the FIC unit covers pretty much everything but not sure. Should I consider these?

I plan to get the tuning from Dyno Tuner here in VA Beach. They seem to know you and have worked with you before and Ive got a lot of referals for them.

Anyways, I know you have a lot of experiece with these trucks and any incite would be great.

Our standard recomendation for running a turbo on the 5VZ is basically the same as we ran on the turbo kits we made for the 5VZ years ago.

1. URD 5VZ Turbo Port Fueler http://urdusa.com/Fuel-Upgrades-URD-...duct_info.html

2. Walbro or one of our other 255 pumps http://urdusa.com/Fuel-Upgrades-Fuel...duct_info.html

3. Map-ECU3 for tuning. It will run all the needs with system including closed loop boost enrichment, removing the speed limiter, clamping the MAF signal, and running all the additional injectors in the Port Fueler. It also works PERFECTLY on the 5VZ. http://urdusa.com/Electronics-Perfor...duct_info.html

The FIC unit is known to have issues with many of the Toyota platforms in the way it interfaces with the crank angle sensor.

Thanks. Do you also sell 5VZ injectors? I havent been able to find anything for a fair price.

This is exactly what i was planning on running but i wanted to know what size injectors should be used with the port fueler if stock injectors are kept in the engine and the MAP3 ECU doesnt need the add-on for closed loop enrichment correct? this is one thing no one seems to have the answer for!

Same here. Its designed for the Bosch injectors... I couldnt find any off the bat but will look harder when I get home.

Gadget, I know "budget" and "Turbo" can be scary, but what are the down sides of cutting costs by just getting a set of 420cc/550cc injectors and not using the port injector?

Im just lost with where to pick up some injectors and what size. Not much info is provided on the site.

What cc's would you recomend and what kind of wire harness would I need?

If your using the port fueler you could probably grab some off ebay i believe there are some supra or lexus injectors that are 308 or 318cc that plus your stock injectors would be over 500cc combined and would have no problem fueling the turbo system. the only thing is will they fit in the port fueler? that i have not researched!

Edit: it looks as though the port fueler uses standard bosch injectors which should make them a bit easier to find.

Yeah, the port injector might make it easier to tune, but Im loosing my mind finding some injectors and I have no idea what kind of wire harness to get... I think Ill pass, Im not tuning the thing .

Give gadget a call, that is going to be the fastest and easiest way to figure this out! to me the port fueler seems much better, than you can also tune it yourself and save a chunk of money. But if you call him be sure to post up what he says and your conclusion

Yeah, when I get a chance. I havent had time to honestly look for some injectors but I tried ICE, LCS, and a few others... Its still a ways off and Im in the process of getting orders for my next command... Been busy.

250-350cc/min will be big enough for the port fueler and should not be hard to find at a good price.
As far as tuning give gadget a call to help you out and I am sure he can get you pretty close. For fine tuning you may need to get someone to help you. Heck if you can come closer to me I will help ya out. Tuning a turbo is harder than the trd sc but if you know halfway what you are doing it is a breeze. It is more intimidating than anything.

I can find some injectors but how are they hooked up to the controller? What wire harness do I need and how is the fuel rail connected to the fuel system? Are these extra parts? Does the URD rail come with these? This rail doesn't look as user friendly as most are making it out to be... Im just a bit confused...

Also, what are the installation instruction, including gaskets, etc...?

Gadget can likely hook you up with all parts needed. Injectors, port fueler, fuel line and adapter to connect to oem fuel rail, intake plenum gaskets, ect... Fuel injectors on port fueler are connected to map ecu harness if I an not mistaken. It is user friendly and should not be hard to hook up. All the details and parts you need are just scaring you and seem to intimidate. I think gadget should post up the details on this on the urd site along with all parts needed and list seperate parts up for sale there too..... Make less confusing for everyone.

Is this used for the Turbo Port Fuel Injector? There are two fuel rails so Im guessing the split has to come before the rails to keep equal pressure...??? Just a standard T or Y fitting should work, correct?

Does the MAP ECU3 retain full OEM OBDII? I need to pass plg-in emissions in AZ.

Is this used for the Turbo Port Fuel Injector? There are two fuel rails so Im guessing the split has to come before the rails to keep equal pressure...??? Just a standard T or Y fitting should work, correct?

Im still having trouble imagining how the port fuel injector is hooked up. Any good pics?

Where/how do I mount the MAP ECU? Gadget, I wish you were closer so I could bug you in person.
1. As long as you tap fuel rail from Port fueler rail you are fine. What do you mean by how injectors are hooked up? Fuel or wiring?

2. Map ecu hooks to oem wiring on ecu and usually mounted behind dash or anywhere out of the way.

I wouldn't buy the cxracing header. the crossover pipe didn't line up at all on mine.
