i read the 1,385 threads that say 265/70/17 are the biggest that will fit with no rubbing issues and that they correct the speedo. (i hope that's still right, there are contradictions everywhere.)

anyway, all the pics i've seen with these size tires seem to be off-road and/or knobby tires.

i don't do any serious off-roading, and i'd like the ride to be smooth and quiet on the street. the stock Dunlops seem pretty good.

is there any particular tire that is QUIET?

I love mine, i have them in 265/70/17 on stock sport rims. I have a 2.5in spacer up front and 1.5aal in the rear, looks good rides good is quite and does not rub. So far i have about 3k miles on them and there still great, they have seen every surface except snow/ice.

you want quiet, BFG's long trail AT's, tread is not aggressive, very, quiet, smooth ride on the street...if you want better mud/offroad traction, u r gonna get some noise with the more aggressive tread....they also have an inbetween tire, a little of both, slightly more tire noise....

Michleins for the best tread life in my experience...

I almost bought these until I was told by a few people that they only last 15-20k miles.

WOW those AT's are really quiet? i would not have guessed, i would have guessed you get the

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    on the freeway.

i wish tires had a sound rating - we have everything else, traction, treadwear, temperature, etc.

If you want quiet, get H/T tires. Some A/T's are quieter than others, but pretty much all of them will be louder than highway tires. If you are set on A/Ts, look at Michelin AT2 or Pirelli Scorpions. Otherwise, stick to H/T tires.

Probably one of the best street tires you can buy. Pretty good for mild offroad too.

LQQKS like i am going to go with those Michelin LTX tires... not too knobby but looks like they will be OK in the snow. (2x a year for me, if that.) truck trail 2x a year for me, if that.

are they the same as stock FJ Cruiser?
