Dumb Tire question
I know this is a common question, so I apologize for asking it again, but I can't seem to get a straight answer. I have a 2008 Tacoma Access Cab 4X4 the stock tires are Dunlop 24575R16 A/Ts. They are pretty useless offroad and I was thinking about getting something else. All the decent tires seem to be 26570R16 can I use those without them rubbing ? The only tire I've found in the original configuration is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

265/70/16 shouldn't give you a problem. The Bridgestone Revos are a good tire too.
BTW, Welcome to TW.

265/70 r16 will fit. You can go up to a 265/75 r16 without any rubbing issues as well. A 275/70 r16 might fit, depending on the company that makes the tire, all tires vary in overall dimensions even though they are the same size.

Yes, that's the max size without a lift.

Thanks for the info guys. How come Costco and a few other websites list 265/75 R16s as incompatible with a Stock Tacoma ? Do they just have some weird policy or are there any safety issues to be concerned with ?

Probably the same reason why the Toyota dealer wouldn't mount my yoko's on my rims. I was told the only tires the dealer would mount were the ones the rims came with from the factory. Even if I had gone with a factory tire, they wouldn't mount them because Tacomas aren't available with the 18" 4runner limited rims.

Due to liabillity issues, most of those places won't mount anything larger than stock. Sam's Club was the same way. They will sometimes mount the larger tire if you bring in the wheels by themselves (not mounted on a vehicle).

The private places will do it usually without question. The big discount department stores are the ones that won't. It varies from place to place. Just ask ahead of time.

Nice tires you got there! How's the thread wearing on those? How's the comfort in highway driving? I'm planning on purchasing new tires and I like what you have. I hope you can share your experience. Thanks. |
