Gabe is right, your only concern would be whether the wheels clear the caliper. Some brands of 16's do not. so it would be best to test fit them first.

If the wheels have 18x9 with 5BS, they are zero offset. You can't choose offset and backspacing, only one or the other. They are two ways of saying the same thing.

New to customizing and think i have it figured out but thought it was better to ask from guys who know what they are talking about. I like the Hostel EMR 811 17X9 wheel. They come in 0, 12, 24 offset. So I would want the 0 offset or would I want the 12 offset. I am planning on getting 265/70/17 tires. I thought I could get BFG but the specs say thy are only good for up to a 8.5 wheel so I am going with the General AT2. I have a 2011 TRD Offroad with a 2.5 leveling kit. Would this tire and wheel package work without any trimming or anything? Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this question.

If you only want 265's, you could go with either the zero or the +12.

Thanks for getting back to me KPT. I appreciate it. I thought about going to a 275/70/17 but didn't think a. They would fit or b. can't find any that will work with a 9" wheel. Do you have any suggestions?

Those would fit. People fit 285/70/17's with trimming.

you would need the 0 offset to do it though.

I only have 2100 miles on my truck so I can't bring myself to start trimming things. I'll go with the 0 offset though so in the future I can still use the wheels if I go larger on the tires. Thanks again I appreciate the help.

Just got my 2012 Taco (first Yota) and need to be able to run front chains. Yes need. This thread seemed to have the best solution. Anyone know what backspacing I need for a 16" wheel running stock size tires? Running real offroad v-bar chains to get into and out of elk camp.

    Thanks!

Great info here!!! One of the main causes of vibrations is using wheels that are not hub-centric. Sometimes rings are provided and sometimes they are not, but the average guy might not know any better and they end up with headache.

sorry guys little confused here, if someone could help answer my question. I was wondering how its possible to have a 9" wide rim with 5" backspacing and 0 offset. Wouldn't 4.5" of backspacing be a 0 offset since 4.5" is half of 9"??? I also see 9" wide rims with 4.5" backspacing and -12 offset. Not sure if i am looking at the picture right but could someone explaing? Mahalo!

www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html go to this link if u have not already...in the end what are u looking to accomplish? What wheels are u wanting or have a ? about?

a 9" wide wheel with -12 offset will bolt up at 4.5" into wheel
a 9" wide wheel with 0 offset will bolt up at 5" into wheel

make sure you are not looking at two wheel widths ex: 17x9 & 17x8

a simpler way to think about this is to add 1" to the advertised size. for example, a 17x9 wheel is actually 10" wide lip to lip. 0 offset would mean 5" BS.

The more I read and try to understand the more I think I confuse myself. Specifically with an 18x9 wheel, what is the difference in 0 offset or going with a -12 offset. What complications should I be expecting? Any recommended tire sizes as to have the least amount of trimming if any?

Im asking because I want an 18" wheel but there just seems to be such a limited selection when looking for a -12. Tires as well. Thanks for anyones help.

Thanks gabe and fcs. Good explaination and great link. Makes sense now since...width and centerline are measured from two different reference points (inside the lip compared to edge of rim)

The -12 offset will stick out one inch more and sit 1" further from the uca, than the 0 offset wheel.

Question. I have an OME 885 on my 08' DC, was looking at running konig countersteer type x with a b.s of 4.1 and an offset of -10, can somebody tell me if i need to do a cab mount chop? i have LR UCAs, and was gonna run them with 285's.
