The +10 will work better for you. That's 5" of backspacing. The -13 is 4", which will push the wheel too far out and lead to rubbing.

The 5" will be cutting it close with 275's though as far as UCA rubbing is concerned.

KPT-- I've been following this thread and you've contributed a wealth of information. I'm hoping you can help me figure out a good wheel size.

I have a 2012 4wd regular cab, plain non-SR5 truck with steel wheels. No lift and no plans to lift. I want to get new wheels and tires. I've settled on BFG AT's and think that 265/70-17 should fit without rubbing, if I get 17" wheels that are the right size.

What width of wheel should I get?

    How about backspacing and offset?

I want to be armed with this info before setting foot in the tire shop.

    Thanks for all the help!
    -Pete

You'll want wheels with between 5.5 and 4.5" of backspacing. Also be aware that many 9" wide wheels (which is a common size for 17s), are not approved for 265 width tires. You can check on the tire manufacturers website what widths each of their tires are approved for.

Thanks! Yes, I now see the BFG's in this size say 8.5" max width for the rim...

i meant to say i rubbed when i tried to put 35" tires on my fabtech lift NOT rubbing anywhere with 33" tires just to clarify that. 285/75/17 yes i had to cab mount chop a little because of rubbing on cab mount because of turning radius.

You are going to have to do some major trimming and cutting to pull that off.

How far a wheel sticks out depends on its backspacing and width. Your stock wheels are 4.5" bs and 7" wide. So for every inch you go wider, or inch less of backspacing, they will stick out an inch more than stock.

I see most guys here run a -12 offset with a 4.5 BS, i have a 3"toytec leveling kit and i was wondering if i can run 18x9 +10 offset i think the BS on that wheel would be 5.5, i want to wrap em in 285/60/18 and my concern is rubbing on the UCA's ???

Going to be really close. The fact that the wheels are 9" might save you.

Thanx for the quick response KPT, i might have a word with my tire guy about this and make a decision. The second option was a 18x9 -12 4.5 BS but those are a second choice for a reason i don't like the wheel as much. The good thing is i'm planning on running Cooper Zeons 6ply so they are not as aggressive as most A/T's or M/T's.

I have a 2003 Tacoma pre runner trd xtra cab with 3.4, no mods. It came with the 265/70r 16 tires and stock Toyota rims option. I got a good deal on the newer 17 inch Toyota sport rims including nitto terra 265 70r 17s. I never looked at uca clearance on the old rims and tires, but with the 17s, I'd say the nut on the bottom of the uca is about 1/4 inch away from 2/3 of the way up the side of the tire sidewall (so above where it bulges out the farthest) is my uca nut going to be too close for my type of driving (highway/city/gravel road)??? I was planning on getting a pair of spider tax up front if needed, but...get your thoughts first. Thanks!

2nd gen wheels sit 1" closer to the UCA than first gen wheels. I would jack the truck out or flex the suspension and see if the uca contacts the tire at any point. Also check it at full lock.

Only if you feel like there will be a lot of situations where you'll have the wheels turned all the way and be off the ground.

    Results:

1/4 inch gap is maintained at full lock, but...when I lifted the front end, there was only about 1/8th inch between the uca and top edge of the tire. My guess between load in cab and bumps I'd have some tire rubbing. Think I better move forward with the spidertrax?

    Hello all,

I'm pretty new to this site and am trying to get all of the info together to start fixing up my Silver 2WD 2010 DC Trd Sport. Its currently fully stock but what i want to do eventually is get the TSB on the rear and Billstein 5100's in the front to level it.

I have thumbed through the site here for a while and need some help with the wheel and tire sizes.

I'm planning on getting some KMC XD Spys with the BFG All Terrain a/t's.

With that set up what should i do for wheel width, backspacing and offset with a 265/75/17 tire if i don't want to do any trimming or cutting?

Any other suggestions on wheel or tire size would be greatly appreciated also.

That tire size does not exist.
