I'm running 18x9 rims with a 0mm offset. -6mm means it will stick out 6mm (roughly 1/4") from the fender more than my wheels do.

I read through a great portion of this thread. Interestingly there was no specific answer supplied making it clear on the backspace that is the proper dimension when running the 285 tires. If I missed it I apologize but seemed like a lot of debate then the people asking "if this will work" post. Clearly there has to be an optimum backspace required to allow the larger tire to fit with no mods or minimal trimming.

While I agree it is so hard to tally up all the factory dimensions of the optional wheels offered by Toyota but why worry about it quite honestly being you will change them.

As I have been searching for wheels I like, it is a chore to get the information from the manufacturer about the backspacing.

With that said, does anyone have the magic numbers for a 7" to 8" wide wheel? Is it 4.5" BS that will allow the proper clearance of the UCA while not sticking out much past the fender line?

You're still gonna get a multitude of answers because most lifts are gonna have different number outcomes....4.5" seems to be where a lot of guys are at though...

At the moment, I have a 18x9 wheel with 0 offset (so should have a 5" backspacing). The tire is 305/60-18. I also have a 3" lift with LR UCAs. I have about 1/2" between the tire and UCA, and my tire sticks out no more than 1/2" from the flare.

I should be swapping to a 16x8 with 0 offset soon, and a 285/75-16 tire (very common for us around here). That should put my tire flush with the fender flare.

I agree. The variables are endless. Final lift kit geometry, simple leveling kits, lift total height, tires are spec'd generically, wheels etc.

Its all good. Its a good thread but doubt it will answer much.

The xd spy rims come in the size 18" x8.5 with a offset of +18 and a backspacing of 5.460 how much of a difference would these rims stick out from the stock TRD sport 17" rims?

New to this site so sorry if this has already been asked.
Is anyone currently running 18x10? And if so did u have to trim or have any problems driving daily or rubbing on anything?

I want to run 18x10 on 33's with wheels that off set 24 with a 6 inch lift. I really don't want to trim it's a new taco.

You're going to have to start cutting just for the 6" lift. You'll have to do a drop bracket kit and that requires cutting out the cross member. Unless you do a 3" suspension lift and a 3" body lift.

You mentioned 18x10 rims, and a 33" tire, but how wide of a tire? I'm currently running 18x9 -0 offset rims and 305/60 (roughly 33x12) tires with a 3" lift. I had to trim some of the inner fender flare, most of the mudflap (might as well just remove it), and chop some of the cab mount. It's not noticeable unless you're looking for it.

Well my main question is...The back space is recommended 4.5...is anyone running with 5.0? And if so what problems do u have?

Rich, Im running that exact setup @ 3" with Dura Tracs(which seem rub more than other's, due to the pronounced shoulder lugs), but I cleared the LCA's no prob, had to ditch the flaps, and trim bottom inside corner plastic, with minor Cab Mount rub at full lock, installing LR UCA's this weekend so I can move the suspension to the front so I don't have to CMC...alls I need is a 1/2" to clear...

If you want to go bigger I think you can run with some 265's with no prob...the -12 offset is going to pull your tire away from your suspension.

would a 16x8 with 4.25" backspacing be better or worse for rubbing?
