15's to 18's

Very new here...

Just picked up new '09 Access Cab this morning and want to go from my stock 15" rims to 18" Pro Comp 8179's. Tires from stock 215/70 15's to 265/60 18's. Tire diameter from just under 27" to 30.5".

I'd appreciate a little insight on whether I can do this w/out lifts/spacers/etc.

I've read through many threads and keep reading conflicting accounts...

Thanks,

Dan

First we need to know what model truck you have? 2wd or 4wd?

If it is 4x4 It should work... My DC SPORT 4x4 came with 265 65 17 stock which would be the same heigth as the 18's you want to run....

They'll fit, somewhat, you'll need to trim some small boxes that the tires will hit on the rear-side of the front wheel wells. But if you're gonna get tires that size then i'd say add a lift cause the front will look kinda funny with large tires but little space between them and the body. total chaos makes two kits, a uca kit and a long travel kit but is more $$$$, readylift is soon to have a 2.75" lift kit for $300 something, or you can do a spacer lift like the dude on this link did for about $200 plus install: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...5lug-taco.html

Remember the 3.31 diff ratio, and be easy on the clutch. I'm sure Toyota will not replace it under warranty upon seeing the 30.5" tires.

The wheels are going to be Pro Comp series 8179 - 17's as the 18's don't come in the lug pattern.

Tires are Geolander H/T-s (the G052 series) for semi-low profile all year use. I'm going with 245/65 17's which will up tire diameter almost 3" and fill out the wheel well a bit.

Pics after it's set up as I'm on a boat in Nantucket for another week...

Do you have any results about the 245/65/ 16 you put on your truck? I am looking at doing the exact thing on my truck. Can't decide between 17's or 18's and tire size. I think that I want to keep the narrowist tire possible for the gas mileage. But I want a higher ride than the stock 215/75 15. Can you post some pictures?

Why would he need to trim anything? I have an 05 DC 2wd with 20's. 265/50/20. No trimming was ever done. I never have any rubbing.
