P235/60R17 on a 2002 PreRunner? Help!

Looking for some help, as I know absolutely nothing about tires and wheels. My daughter has a 2002 Tacoma PreRunner with P265/70R16 tires that need to be replaced. Someone where I work is selling P235/60R17 tires (Bridgestone Dueler H/T) and wheels (American Racing Assault) for $250 (see picture) for the set. The tires are nearly brand new with less than 2,000 miles on them. Sounds like a great deal, but I'm not sure if they'll fit on my daughters truck. I read the door panel info and it says the OEM tires are P225/75R15, though I do have P265/70R16's on there now. I've checked tire guides on the web and some indicate that I can use the P235/60R17 tire and wheel combination. Just wanted to check with the experts in this forum before I put these on my daughters vehicle. Thanks!

 

They will work but your new tire is going to be considerably shorter than your current one. A 235/60 17 is 28.1 inches tall. A 265/70 16 is 30.6 inches tall. In my opinion, it will look funny. But if you don't care about looks go for it. Also, you need to consider that your speedometer will be off by 8.9%. When your speedo reads 60, you will actually be going 55.1 MPH.

 

pretty sure the 225 75 15s are the stock size for a non prerunner.

 

Bama Taco, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the info. I purchased the wheels, but I'm going to swap out the tires now for 265/70R17's. The Bridgestone's that are on the wheels are nearly brand new so I should be able to recoup what I paid for the wheels and tires.
