Question Load range D vs. E 285/70/17 BFG A/T?

Just slapped on new wheels and BFG 285/70/17 A/T Baja Champion tires. I noticed after driving home that the load range on the tires are E, far above what I would need. I saw BFG also makes a D in the same size. The truck drives fine so far, will it make a big deal in terms of the stiffness driving as well as the gas mileage from D to E tires?

The tire dealer said that these new BFG's work fine on light trucks even in the 10 ply/E range. Any truth to that

There's no reason a load range E wouldn't work on a Tacoma, it's just overkill unless you need the extra plys for off-roading. The truck will ride rough and your gas mileage may drop a little because the tire is so heavy. There probably wouldn't be too much difference between the D and E on a Tacoma though.

its a matter of 8 ply sidewall vs 10 ply sidewall. MAYBE d range if you do towing. E range is for full size trucks with a lot of weight and towing. I had e range bfgs. they killed my mpgs so i traded in for c range duratracs.

What kind of mileage did you get with the BFG's? That's my primary concern with this tire.

I'm getting like 15 mpg right now with easier driving. It's not the end of the world for me, but im running 265/75/16s not 285s. Do you have a first or second gen?

I get 20mpg ish with E load 265x75R16s. The weight of the tire is pretty negligible. Your right foot will do much more for saving gas then an extra 5-10lbs on the vehicle will.
