Yokohama Geolander

does anyone have these on their truck. I like BF Goodrich A/T'S. But they weigh a lot more than these. Plus I can get for of these for 536.00 shipped for free.

 

Had on my last truck -2002 F150 supercrew for about 30K miles. Held up well.
I have BFG's on my current TACO. I loved the Geolanders. Great in wet, light snow, black ice. very good in light mud or normal off road conditions. Super quiet tire on the road. As you said the BFG's are heavy whereas the Geolander is relatively light in comparison.
The price is a winner compared to the BFG's.

I don't have them but seriously considered them when I replaced my tires a few months ago. Everything I read about them was positive. The only reason I decided against them was I found a great deal on set of tires I had great luck with in the past. Otherwise, I'd probably be running the geolanders.

 

Mileage must really go down with the BF G's

 

I had a set on my old Ranger and they were awesome tires. Held up really well to some rough roads and snow. Never had a flat with them in 5 years. I had some put on my old Highlander and they were great on that car too. A little loud for a crossover SUV but they were the best tires in the snow ever. Never had to chain that car up in 12 to 18" of snow.

 

OP, I just realized you're in MA. I found a tire I wanted, looked all over the place, internet, local shops, etc, and found a down and dirty price off an internet shop (a place I'd never send my credit card info to) and brought it to Townfair tire. They'll match any price you can find shipped to your door plus their mounting fees. It ended up saving me close to $50/tire off their listed sale price. Not sure if you were familiar with them or not. Good luck!

 

Yes right down the street from my house actually. Has a very bad experience with them with my 2001 Tacoma. They tried using my westin stainless steps to jack up the car. Luckily I came out and saw my truck tilting because it was bending the step. Plus after 4 times having them try to balance my BF G's I had I went somewhere else. I personally think Townfair tire SUCKS. But thanks though.

 

Wow man, I would have been furious! There's a brand new location right around the corner from me. The guys seemed to be pretty good and they got me a good price. After your experience though, I don't blame you from not wanting to go back!

try www.mavistire.com you can search a bunch of different tires and read reviews on them and how they got rated against other tires. They're in Albany, NY so probably too far to get tires from them but the info on the site is good.

 

I have 265/70/16 on mine now. Rough estimate about 50,000 miles with plenty of tread left. Love em. I prefer the look of the BFG, but for price and ride quality (which is significantly smoother and quieter) these are tough to beat. Did great in our huge snow storms this past winter in VA. I have never fishtailed with them.

 

Probably lost 1 1/2-2 mpg over stock. with the geolanders on my other rig mileage was better than the stock tire.

 

I am going to be getting these tires within the next month but in 265/70r16 form

 

I know Cmack on here is running em and he likes em. They perfor mpretty good out here in the sand and rock and there great on the road

 

My truck came with them used. I really liked them in deep snow, but otherwise they were garbage. Wore poorly, loud, etc.

 

My truck's got Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos and I love them...but I ran geolanders on a 2004 Xterra and they were a great tire. Excellent in the snow and rain and pretty quiet on the highway.

 

The complaints about lack of ice traction on these tires has made me stay away from the Geolander AT-S, at least so far. Here in NC we don't get much snow (usually) but we do tend to get fairly heavy ice 3-5x a year. Due to being "mission critical" at work I have to be there, regardless of the weather, so I'd prefer not to run into a ditch along the way when an ice storm happens.

 

So what non studded rubber tire is going to give you good ice traction?

 

I have the geolanders ats on my FJ. They have a soft compound so your gonna see them wear faster than the bfg which has a harder compound. As some have already said, they last about 30k miles whereas the bfgs can hit 50k. The softer compound provides a soft ride though, and a quiet one. Ive read hundreds of reviews about them and most rave about their snow traction too. I just got them and they haven't seen a winter yet but, based on my experience so far, I would definitely recommend them.

 

"Good" ice traction might be an overstatement but both the Firestone Destination ATs and Michelin LTX AT/2s seem to have better capabilities in the ice than the Geolanders. Granted I've never owned either and I'm getting data from reviews, truck sites and Consumer Reports but they all seem to agree. Not sure I want to shell out the $$$ for Michelins but the Destinations are comparably priced with the Geolanders and remain on my list to check out.

 

x2....there's no such thing as "good" ice traction. If I remember correctly, consumer reports suggests using ice stopping and mpg difference simply as a tie breaker. Just don't get one that has "bad" ice traction...otherwise you're likely ok.

 

Exactly.. unfortunately the Geolander AT-S keeps coming up in my research as having bad ice traction. Probably not an issue for a lot of our members... they either never get snow/ice or get way more snow than ice. And these tires appear to have good snow traction. But us folks here in the middle tend to get more ice than snow and I live 45 mins (with good roads) from work.
